This position, based near Frankfurt in Germany, is for a consultant with at least 3 years experience of design, development and integration of operational ground systems and experience of Earth observation processing systems. Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. This role will be responsible for system engineering tasks, including definition and integration of the data handling and product processing systems. The key experience and attributes sought are At least 3 years experience with design, development and integration of operational ground systems providing 24x7 services Experience of Earth observation processing systems Experience of system verification and validation Familiarity with the Linux operating system, shell programming languages e.g. bash and high level programming languages e.g. Java or Python The ability to perform software modifications and developments for the purpose of integrating and adapting existing software packages into the established system Candidates should possess a university degree or equivalent. The working language is English. This is a freelance contract assignment with an initial period of 3 years starting in July 2013 with two options to extend for a further period of one year each. Modis is looking for a skilled Satellite System Engineer for an opportunity at the European Space Agency in the Netherlands The main tasks to be performed Coordination of project teams which include space engineering professionals, university staff, and university students. Time will be shared between supporting launch campaigns and liasing with graduate tainees. Provide system engineering support to the project teams. Monitor the technical baseline of the relevant projects, and review the project documentation to ensure compliance with requirements, applicable standards, and good space engineering practice. Support and review the satellite AIV Assembly, Integration and Verification campaigns to be performed at the ESTEC test facilities, or at facilities located elsewhere, and the launch interfacing and campaigns to be supported also at the launch site, if needed. Support the preparation and conduct of project meetings, project reviews, test campaigns, and of workshops or conferences. Liaise with the Young Graduate Trainees involved in the satellite projects of the Education Office, and support the Head of the Tertiary Education Unit for their coordination. Liaise with the colleagues of the Education Office in charge of Outreach coordination, to the scope of supporting the outreach initiatives on the ESA education satellites. Offer support if requested by the Head of the Tertiary education Unit to other tertiary education projects. To successfully perform the above mentioned tasks, the following background experience is required Candidates must demonstrate a broad knowledge of system engineering skills in space systems, be well organized and show a good sense of initiative.
