Summary An experienced EGSE Software Engineer required to work for Telespazio VEGA UK onsite at ESTEC. Objective To provide expert support to the EGSE and Ground Systems Section of the Software Systems Division. Responsibilities Duties The engineer will provide on demand expertise in activities related to EGSE systems Project such as Euclid support on the procurement, development and utilisation of EGSE systems, including problem solving, interfaces with external systems and project reviews Support on RD studies, specifically related to the European Ground System Common Core EGSCC, and Standardization activities in the EGSE domain Maintenance and future developments of the EGSE Reference Facility as part of the Software Systems Laboratory. This includes integrating industrial elements in the EGSE reference facility and verifying their functioning in end to end scenarios, maintaining and EGSE software libraryconfiguration managementlab website, evaluate needs and generate requirements for enhancements. Qualifications Experience A MSc or equivalent qualification in Electronic Engineering, Space Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related discipline The candidate shall have extensive practical experience of implementing complex systems, in developing and utilizing EGSEs, in modelling monitoring and control data in compliance with the ESA SCOS monitoring and control systems Knowledge of modern software engineering practices and standards applied to realtime systems Knowledge of Space Systems and Space System Engineering is necessary In particular experience with Realtime software Object Oriented design methods UML, XML Operating systems e.g. Linux, Windows SCOS 2000 and the SCOS 2000 MIB ICD Experience with the PUS and its tailoring Essential Skills An ability to work independently and to establish good working relations with ESA and industrial counterparts is essential. Summary An experienced radio navigation engineer with relevant experience of radio navigation systems architecture and key performance parameters of GNSS. Objective To support the design, analysis and testing of radio navigation systems, with emphasis on system architecture and performance and on radio navigation receivers. Responsibilities Duties Overview of Tasks Radio Navigation system GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO etc. and augmentation EGNOS,WAAS, QZSS etc.. The work includes studies analyses and testing of navigation systemssegmentselementstechnology, dissemination and navigation algorithms, including tools development evaluation of NavigationPositioningTiming algorithm and techniques, usersystemsegment performance assessment based on software simulators, laboratory and field measurements, and support to ESA projects in follow up of industrial procurements. Radio Navigation space applications performed at ESA include scientific applications atmospheric sounding, oceanic observation, formation flying, rendezvous and attitude determination. Radio Navigation equipment for terrestrial applications. The work includes study, design, analysis and testing of navigation receiverstechnology for terrestrial applications and local augmentation. Radio Navigation terrestrial applications performed at ESA are those related with high performance based on high accuracy e.g. geodesy andor high integrity e.g. civil aviation, maritime. Radio Navigation signals and signal processing. The work includes study, design, analysis and testing of signal and signal processing techniques including toolsequipment development and procurement. It encompasses signal structure, modulations, data dissemination, techniques for error correction, synchronisation, multipath mitigation and estimation, interference mitigation, cancellation, encryption, authentication, etc. Radio Navigation Laboratory equipment. The work includes definition procurement design, testing, usage of Radio Navigation equipment in support to Radio Navigation experiments and test campaigns. Specific Tasks Participation in studies on radio navigation receivers design and techniques, in particular for Galileo Support to the Galileo project in the followon of industrial contracts for test and system receivers Support to the Galileo project for system performance evaluation Software hardware simulations and laboratory testing. Qualifications Experience The engineer shall be a senior scientistengineer ideally holding a PhD in geophysical sciences e.g. oceanography, meteorology, physics, mathematics or engineering with a strong background in satellite remote sensing using Lband radiometry. This includes handson experience with SMOS L1 and L2 data processing and a good knowledge of the corresponding application areas. Furthermore, knowledge of and experience with the STSE programme is mandatory. Technical skills shall include programming and a good knowledge of relevant software packages. Essential Skills A good knowledge of the English language is expected. The applicant shall be able to work both autonomously and as a part of a team.
