Walmart wins bidding for Flipkart, to buy 77% for USD 16 billion

(Telecompaper) Walmart has won the bidding to acquire Indian e-commerce platform Flipkart, beating Amazon to the deal. The US company will pay USD 16 billion to acquire a 77 percent stake in Flipkart from shareholders such as Softbank. Flipkart's founders as well as Tencent, Tiger Global and Microsoft will continue to hold minority stakes. Walmart said it will build out the Indian platform in the near term, ahead of an eventual IPO for Flipkart.
Facebook launches standalone Oculus Go VR headset for USD 199

Apple raises dividend, plans USD 100 bln share buyback after solid Q1 results

(Telecompaper) Apple announced a 16 percent increase in its dividend and plans to spend another USD 100 billion buying back shares, after reporting results for the March quarter in line with expectations. The company's revenues for its fiscal second quarter rose 16 percent year-on-year to USD 61.14 billion, and earnings were up 30 percent to USD 2.73 per share.

Amazon Q1 sales grow 43% to USD 51 billion, beating guidance

(Telecompaper) Amazon.com saw its net sales increase 43 percent year-on-year in the first quarter to USD 51.0 billion, beating its guidance. Operating profit jumped 92 percent to USD 1.9 billion, also better than expected, and net profit more than doubled, to USD 1.6 billion or USD 3.27 per share, from USD 724 million or USD 1.48 per share a year earlier.
Altaba fined USD 35 mln by SEC for late Yahoo data breach disclosure
