Software Engineer 1624121 Job Description We are looking for a Software Engineer for our client ESO, in Munich, Germany. You will be part of the Data Flow Infrastructure group DFI within the Science Software department SCS which is responsible for maintaining software components, which are for the endtoend operations of the ESO Observatories. The Data Flow Infrastructure software includes tools for proposal submission, observation preparation and execution, archive ingestion and retrieval, data organization and execution of data reduction pipelines. Your tasks will center on developing and maintaining software applications and services which support the operational and scientific requirements of the EELT and VLT dataflow. In addition to the core SW development, the assigned tasks require requirements analysis in periodic interaction with project scientists, test automation, software integration, deployment and enduser support. You will also be assigned to the further development of the Science Archive Facility, following an agile, featuredriven development process. You will also be expected to contribute to other activities within the Dataflow project team, quickly adapting to the changing needs of ESOs dynamic environment. Required Skills and Experience University degree in Computer Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering or equivalent. Minimum of 3 years professional experience in software development. Senior level expertise in Java software development. Very good knowledge of relational databases and object relational mapping technologies. Strong Linux experience. Proven experience developing dynamic web applications using HTML, CSS and Javascript. Solid practical familiarity with modern software engineering practices and tools, including configuration control tools, incremental iterative development, unit and integration testing and build systems like Ant or Maven. Excellent command of the English language very good oral and written communication skills Able to support the full software development life cycle, from requirements gathering, design and implementation, to deployment and maintenance. Able to write clear and concise developer and userlevel documentation.
