Summary of the role The Data Flow Infrastructure group DFI within the Science Operations Software department SCS is responsible for developing and maintaining software components, which are critical for the endtoend operations of the ESO Observatories. The Data Flow Infrastructure software includes tools for proposal submission, observation preparation and execution, archive ingestion and retrieval, data organization and execution of data reduction pipelines. We are looking for a consultant to develop and maintain software applications and services supporting the operational and scientific requirements of the EELT and VLT dataflow. In addition to the core SW development, the assigned tasks require requirements analysis in periodic interaction with project scientists, test automation, software integration, deployment and enduser support. Reporting to the dataflow project manager and to the DFI group head, the consultant will be assigned to the further development of the Science Archive Facility, following an agile, featuredriven development process. He or she is also expected to contribute to other activities within the Dataflow project team, quickly adapting to the changing needs of our dynamic environment. Requirements The ideal consultant is a software engineer with a minimum of 3 years professional experience in software development. He or she will be able to support the full software development life cycle, from requirements gathering, design and implementation, to deployment and maintenance. Dataflow software developers are expected to write clear and concise developer and userlevel documentation. Team spirit, customer orientation and a strong sense for quality development are essential.
