DUTIES The postholder will report to the Head of the Software Product Assurance SPA Section. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in computer science, mathematics or software engineering and experience in at least three of the following areas software product assurance in critical realtime applications, software engineering, software configuration management, dependability assessment of software intensive systems, computeraided software development and maintenance, maturity assessment and auditing. Candidates should have good interpersonal and communication skills. They should have the ability to work autonomously, effectively and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment and to define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines. In addition, applicants should have good analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to solving problems and an interest in innovative technologies. You work in the Remote Sensing and Products Division RSP, supporting the routine operations, the maintenance and evolution of operational implementations of complex algorithms required for the derivation of Atmospheric Motion Vector AMV products from both EPS and MSG instruments. You will be primarily responsible for the software that generates the AVHRR AMV products. This responsibility will in general include anomaly investigation and correction, algorithm enhancements and tuning, and collaborating with the operations engineers responsible for daytoday monitoring of the performance of the AMV products. Future activities will include improvements to algorithm performance, based on the medium term Product Development and Implementation Plans PDIP on improving existing EPS AMV PPF and on the preparation of the AMV algorithm for EPSSG and MTG future programmes. The last task will specifically include support to a prototype processor for AMV extraction from Infra Red IR sounders instrument like EPS IASI and IDPFS. Responsibilities You will support the team of the Atmospheric and Imaging Applications AIA in the group responsible for the scientific AMV product development and implementation. Typical activities to be undertaken are Algorithm software anomaly investigation and correction Design and implementation of algorithm enhancements or improvements Software feasibility analyses of proposed new product algorithms, or major algorithm upgrades Development of tools in support of product monitoring and product analysis, for example as part of EPS PPF product validation testing Preparation of technical documents on product implementation issues Preparation of technical notes and reports as required Attendance at technical and RSPAIA team meetings as required This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date in January 2017.
