For the location in Darmstadt Germany we are looking for a Flight Dynamics Engineer for LEO Satellites at EUMETSAT. Tasks The Key persons shall support the Flight Dynamics routine operations of the inflight EPS satellites MetopA and MetopB as well as the preparation and after launch execution of Flight Dynamics operations for future Low Earth Orbiting satellites MetopC, Sentinel3, EPSSG, JasonCS Flight Dynamics support to the operations of the inflight geostationary satellites and to the preparation of future geostationary satellites MTG may also be required, as well as support to Precise Orbit Determination operations. The Key persons will be integrated in the Flight Dynamics Operations Team. Their tasks in the area of EPS Flight Dynamics routine operations will typically include Execution of the routine operations of the EPS Flight Dynamics Facility, including spacecraft orbit determination and propagation, events and ground station visibility predictions, Attitude and Orbit Control System AOCS telecommand generation and telemetry monitoring Planning and execution of EPS spacecrafts maneuvers, as well as of their evaluation, thruster calibration and maintenance of the fuel budgets estimates Support to the contingency operation of EPS spacecrafts, including preparation and execution of conjunction avoidance maneuvers, recovery of routine operations, safe mode support and operation transfer to the BackUp Control Centre these activities may require intervention during the night and the nonworking days Operational quality control of maneuvers and AOCS telecommands before uplink and execution onboard of the EPS spacecraft Preparation and maintenance of Flight Dynamics operational procedures for spacecraft routine, special and contingency operations, operational configuration maintenance and system management Performance analysis of the EPS Flight Dynamics System, specially focusing on the monitoring of the input to the processing of meteorological products, and implementation of enhancements as required Perform system level analyses needed for the refinement of the Flight Dynamics algorithms and optimisation of the operational configuration and implementation of enhancements as required for the EPS missions Preparation and production of routine reports as necessary. Their tasks in the area of preparation and of Flight Dynamics operations for future Low Earth Orbiting satellites will typically include Support to the ground segment development and operational preparation activities in the area of Flight Dynamics prior to launch of a new LEO satellite EPS, Sentinel3, EPSSG and JasonCS FD database preparation, definition of operational procedures, generation of related operational configuration data and participation to operational validation of satellite and groundsegment operations Support Flight Dynamics activities during launch and commissioning for the new LEO satellite EPS, Sentinel3, EPSSG and JasonCS startup of FD system and initialisation of FD operational data, assessment of handover conditions, inflight validation of FD performances and transition to routine operations Review of spacecraft and groundsegment technical documentation and participation in formal reviews Perform required mission and system analysis studies, preparation of technical notes and attendance at technical meetings. Execution of Flight Dynamics routine operations after the launch of a new satellite, similarly to what above described for the EPS satellites. Essential requirements In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Key person shall have at least 5 years of experience on Flight Dynamics of a LEO satellite in particular, the Key person shall demonstrate as a minimum the following mandatory skills Knowledge of the analytical principles for orbit determination and control Experience with the routine operations of operational flight dynamics systems for LEO satellites Experience with the development of operational flight dynamics systems for LEO satellites. Desirable requirements Furthermore, it would be a distinct advantage for the Key person to have experience with some of the following Familiarity with the AOCS of Low Earth orbiting satellites Experience with conjunction analysis systems Familiarity with configuration control practices for operational software Skills in the area of software development and validation Experience with one or more of the following Fortran, C, TCL, Java Familiarity with statistical and graphical analysis tools Experience with operational flight dynamics systems for GEO satellites or with operational Precise Orbit Determination systems. Tasks and Responsibilities The two key persons shall work as a member of the Information Management team part of the Information Management and Configuration Management Competence Area within the PRS Division, in order to provide support to GEO and LEO Programme developments. For the execution of hisher tasks, the key persons will make use of the EUMETSAT Documentation Management Tool. The tasks will typically include Manage documentation according to existing working practices and procedures Support preparation of data packages, i.e. large numbers of documents for programme milestone reviews Check external documents against commitments of external contractors Import external documents into the EUMETSAT Documentation Management Tool DMT, including data packages in the applicable documentation folder structures Perform systematic checks on the documents metadata to assure all information are available to properly manage documents and their workflow Create and maintain folder structures in the DMT Manage baseline documentation under configuration control according to applicable Configuration Management working practices and procedures Maintainreview plans, procedures, working practices and templates as necessary Generate reports on documentation status, as requested Support users on implementing applicable documentation management working practices and procedures Contribute to the review of applicable documentation management working practices and procedures, and propose improvements as much as possible of general applicability Support related administrative tasks as requested. Requirements The Keypersons shall have following experience Full secondary education as a minimum, with specific training or education in information, documentation or configuration management Academic background is a distinct advantage Two to three years of experience with a technical, administrative or librarian role Practical experience in management of technical information and documentation, preferably in an IT or engineering sector, in support to a large set of users Proven experience in applying information, documentation or configuration management processes Proven experience in the use of an electronic documentation, information or configuration management tool, implementing an electronic workflow Proficient knowledge of use of MSOffice, MSAccess, Acrobat and scanning methodology, including experience in managing complex documents structure, related templates, layout and formatting Experience with relational databases will be an advantage, as well as experience in managing information generated using engineering tools e.g., design tools, requirements management tools, etc. Experience in Aerospace Industry will be an advantage.
