Ground Segment System Architecture Engineer 1513079 Job Description We are looking for a Ground Segment System Architecture Engineer to support our client EUMETSAT. You will assist in the architectural and system engineering activities for operational and future programmes ground segments, within the System Engineering and Projects Division. In doing this, you shall support SEP activities in the following areas of work Modelling of ground segment subsystems, addressing functional, behavioural and interface aspects as correlated to the data schema Refactoring of the architectural design of existing systems within the context defined for the Reference Ground Segment creating the systems models Support the consolidation, evolution and maintenance of the Reference Architecture and its related artefacts Definition of requirements for the components of the GS reference architecture Support the assessment of impacts of changes required for operational systems as result of evolution of needs and maintenance activities Support the update and maintenance of the documentation of operational ground segments as follow up actions stemming from agreed evolution and changes of the systems. You shall make use of ModelBased Systems Engineering approaches and tools to document the work done and describe the architecture of the system components. The MBSE tool available at EUMETSAT in support of functional analysis and decomposition of the system is CORE 9 from Vitech. You will be a member of a multidisciplinary system engineering team interacting with operational programmes and future programmes engineering teams and will perform system engineering activities such as a Requirements engineering, which consists in requirements analysis and validation, requirements allocation, tracing, and requirements change control b Functional analysis and architecture design applying system modelling engineering methods and techniques c Ground Segment components specification d Interface definition e System analyses, performed for the purpose of resolving requirements conflicts, decomposing and allocating requirements, assessing system effectiveness f Tradeoff studies for assessing effectiveness, risk, cost and planning for the implementation of changes requested by operations users and customers. You will be expected to perform the following specific tasks 1. Build models of Subsystem of the Reference Architecture Ground Segment, capturing their requirements, describing the internal architecture and defining their external interfaces 2. Support the generation, review and maintenance of the documentation of the Reference Architecture Subsystems addressing their architecture, functions, requirements and interfaces 3. Support the management of the requirements of the Reference Architecture subsystem and Components, heeding on the evolution of the operational system and future systems, using DOORS 4. Categorise and link relevant Subsystem and Component requirements to the model for traceability 5. Refine the processes and working practices established for the application of the Model Based Systems Engineering and the use of Vitech CORE 6. Analysis of Engineering Change Requests issued for evolution of the operational ground segments Required Skills and Experience You will have a univerisity degree and at least 5 years demonstrated experience in the field of systems engineering and architectural design along with Extensive experience in the analysis of systems applications and modelling Space and Ground System engineering processes, and System and Software lifecycles and standards. Experience in Model Based Systems Engineering methods, techniques and tools Experience in the use of modelling and design tools in support of architectural design activities e.g. Vitech CORE, Enterprise Architect Definition, management and traceability of requirements structure with the support of dedicated tools e.g. DOORS. Desirable Skills and Experience You shall be able to fulfill the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision, have a systematic approach to work, be able to plan hisher work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple parallel tasks. You shall have the capability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation. Good communications skills verbal and written are important. You shall be willing to work in a team of engineers and in cooperation with industry and partner agencies. You shall have good interpersonal skills and proactive attitude with strong ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment. We are looking for an System Engineer with experience performing top down analyses of EndtoEnd Instrument Chains combined space and ground segment and performing syntheses and compiling technical budgets bottom up for EPSSG type of instruments sounders and imagers from the ultraviolet to the microwave range, a scatterometer and a radiooccultation instrument. The System Engineer will support overall System aspects for EPSSG endtoend instrument chains, i.e. involving the space segment satellites as well as the ground segment data acquisition systems, monitoring and control systems, data processing facilities and product dissemination facilities. This position is fulltime and unlimited, fully located on customer side EUMETSAT, Darmstadt, Germany. Application deadline for this position is 19th of October 2015. Earliest possible starting date will be November latest will be January 2016. RESPONSIBILITIESDUTIES Mission performances Identification of contributors to performances radiometric spectral geometric allocation apportionment to elements of the instrument chains. Definition of approach for performance modelling review of adequacy of related modelling tools. Compilation and analysis of endtoend performance budgets, as needed collecting input from space and ground segment studies cross check against applicable requirements. Processing chains Definition of overall approach for the development, verification and validation VV of the processing chains as part of the overall EPSSG System. Identification of implications of processing concepts for System ground segment requirements, architecture and design. Identification of required tools and test data for the development and VV of the processing chains as relevant generation of technical documents to support tool development procurement. Support for the development of relevant tools and the generation of required test data sets. Following up of validation of processing algorithms and of verification of processing chains in the ground segment as relevant for System VV of the endtoend instrument chains. Instrument calibration product validation Analysis of the implications of instrument calibration concepts for the System and ground segment and specifically for onground data processing. Support for the definition of the required infrastructure to perform tuning maintenance of calibration data and to validate generated products. In addition the keyperson will be involved in some more general tasks Regular review of System level documentation dealing with requirements, system concepts, architecture and design, technical analyses, to identify information of importance for endtoend instrument chains. In addition, and with the same aim, analysis of documents provided by other teams in EUMETSAT and by external partners. Support for coordination of interdisciplinary meetings of relevance for the instrument chains. Support for the preparation of documentation for System level reviews, during the covered period mainly the System Requirements Review and the Preliminary Design Review QUALIFICATIONSEXPERIENCE University or similar degree in aerospace, electronics or physics Minimum 5 years working experience ESSENTIAL SKILLS Fluency in English At least 5 years of experience in the field of engineering of space andor ground systems, in the area of Earth observation from space. At least 5 years of direct involvement in the development of relevant instruments EPSSG satellites will embark sounders and imagers from the ultraviolet to the microwave range, a scatterometer and a radiooccultation instrument andor the related onground processing chain, with an indepth understanding of mutual implications. Good overall knowledge of instruments, the platform environment, processing algorithms, ground segment environment, to the extent relevant for endtoend instrument chains. Demonstrated ability to perform analyses of a System combined space and ground segment top down and to perform syntheses and compile technical budgets bottom up. DESIRABLE SKILLS Familiarity with the development of test tools and the generation of test data sets.
