Satellite Operations System Engineer for Sentinel3

RESPONSIBILITIESDUTIES The tasks of the Key person will typically include Support to the commissioning and routine operations of Sentinel 3A, and preparing for Sentinel3B comprising o Provision of operational expertise to their relevant system ref. to Table 1 in particular, with support to other platform subsystems andor payload instruments andor onboard software management, satellite simulator and ground segment operations interfaces o Maintain the corresponding operations documentation and flight procedures, including the update and operational validation of procedures releases in a configuration controlled environment o Perform trending and performance analysis on the corresponding subsystems and instruments, including definition and possibly prototyping of additional analysis checks where necessary o Investigations into satellite anomalies. This may require a close cooperation with the Post launch Support Office PLSO in ESTEC and space industry Support the coordination of partner agency interactions for relevant subsystemsinstruments o Participation in the satellite oncall support rota o Identification and support to implementation of system and process improvements concerning the Spacecraft Operations Team responsibilities and interfaces. Support to the system and operations preparation of sentinel3 C and D satellites o Provide inputs and I or review the definition of system and satellite operational concepts o Review space to ground interface specifications and flight operations manuals Support the definition of tools and processes required to prepare for and operate the satellites. Support to the system and operations preparation of other LEO satellites o Provide operations preparation support as required to the Sentinel6 development. QUALIFICATIONSEXPERIENCE University or similar degree in Engineering or similar Satellite operations engineer with minimum 5 years experience on Low Earth Orbit LEO, 3 axis stabilized spacecraft and experience with SCOS 2K and MOIS. ESSENTIAL SKILLS Fluency in English Experience of at least 5 years of Spacecraft Operations on Low Earth Orbit LEO, 3 axis stabilised spacecraft with responsibility for one or more platform subsystems or instruments during operational validation, commissioning or routine operations phases Experience of at least 3 years of SCOS2000 mission control system and use of the MOIS operations preparation tool Demonstrated experience in satellite performance monitoring and reporting aspects including anomaly analysis and solving in liaison with satellite industry, procedure change control and configuration management processes Experience in the operation or development of satellite ground segment facilities, in particular procedure development, monitor and control, mission planning, onboard software management, performance analysis, configuration management and simulator facilities. DESIRABLE SKILLS Specification of system and operational concepts, facility requirements Familiarity with OnBoard Control Procedure and OnBoard Position Scheduler concepts Familiarity with the ECSS Packet Utilisation Standard, customisation and usage Familiarity with system change control and configuration management procedures Data analysis software packages such as MATLAB File parsing languages such as PERL, A WK Use ofVBA for development of adhoc tools in MS Office applications.

This post is classified in the A2A4 grade band of the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. LOCATION ESTEC, Noordwijk Netherlands. DUTIES The postholder will be responsible for system and AIV engineering for the payloads under development in the Division, with particular emphasis on the material science payloads. However, the incumbent will also support the final phases of the ACES Atomic Clock in Space project, with particular attention to the verification and final acceptance processes. The postholder will report to the Section Head, and will liaise closely with the industrial prime contractors, with the Physical Science Office HSOUP, and with the ESA team responsible for ISS Integration and Operations Columbus Operations Division HSOIC. Specifically, the incumbent will be responsible for monitoring industrial activities for the development, integration, test and initial operations of the material science payloads supporting the project manager in continuous status monitoring of the payload activities, assigning corrective actions, elaborating solutions for resource conflicts and implementing necessary changes to the established requirements and plans supporting the progressive establishment of the payload baseline, from requirements up to and including the end item definition providing support to the contractors in defining and implementing the functional specifications, in defining and controlling the payload external and internal interfaces, and in verifying and documenting the verification of all payload requirements supporting and providing inputs to the ISS Integration and Operations teams including ESA, Industry and the USOCs and to the Physical Science Office to prepare the operational phase of the payloads supporting coordination with the specialised engineering support from the Directorate of Technical and Quality Management as required supporting technical discussionsnegotiations with launch authorities for the launcher interfaces supporting the organisation and the conduct of project reviews at system, ground segment, and payload level providing support to other projects in critical phases. In particular, supporting the verification and final acceptance of ACES. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering andor Physics. A proven ability to cooperate with industrial partners in achieving common goals is required.
