Job description For our customer, ESAESTEC, we are seeking an experienced Space Operations System Engineer to work within the Galileo Project Office at ESTEC, Nordwijk, The Netherlands. Galileo is Europes global navigation satellite system, which will provide a highly accurate global positioning service under civilian control. The Galileo system is currently being brought into operation, with the constellation of orbiting satellites becoming established. The ESA Galileo Project Office oversees the overall programme and ensures that the various elements of the Galileo system are in place ready to support Galileo services. In this position you will be assigned to the System and Flight Operations Unit of the Galileo Operations Procurement Service Division and will report to the Head of System and Flight Operations Section. Responsibilities As a Galileo Space Operations System Engineer your tasks will include the following Support the evaluation and execution of all operations activities executed by the Galileo Operations Contractor, ensuring the preparation and execution of operations and plans Participate to the spacecraft anomaly review boards, supporting the evaluation of any recovery action required Support the interfacing to the Galileo Space Segment for the deployment of new OBSW versions and the procurement of new spacecraft batches Define the System Level Operational concepts for the Galileo Second Generation for the infrastructure and associated External Interfaces with External Entities for the different project phases and related system builds Collaborate in coordinating the interaction between the operations team and the G2G system design team ensuring the coherency of the system design with the Galileo Second Generation Operations Concepts Define the operation requirements applicable to the design, development and validation of the system operations for the Galileo Second Generation, ensuring coherency with the deployment of new System Builds Interface with ESA specialists regarding technical matters, including spacecraft and segment design and operations documentation Maintain and upgrade all the G2G Operations project documentation, including MOCD, OSRD and Operational documents Participate on Galileo G2G related reviews panels, evaluations boards as required This is a full time located at ESTEC, the Netherlands, with frequent travelling to other Galileo locations to follow other test campaigns, infrastructure deployment, project reviews or progress meetings. The requested start of work is December 2015. Qualifications Competencies Applicants shall have an university degree, in a relevant discipline or other suitable qualification. A minimum of 3 years experience in satellite activities and more specifically in satellite system activities. The position involves some travel, mainly within Europe. The role comprises a range of tasks including the provlSlon of support to the routine operation of the S3 ground segment, as well as its evolution to include new functionality and system operations. The SSyOE will be responsible for the definition andor maintenance of the routine operations procedures pertaining to system operations and the interfaces of the key systems within the ground segment, in accordance with the established EUMETSAT Operations Department configuration management and quality assurance practices. The SSyOE will acquire and maintain a Systemwide view of the EUMETSAT ground segments, wherever this could impact the S3 ground segment. The SSyOE will review any planned changes to the system configurations for the S3 ground segments, and support the investigation of anomalies encountered through the routine system and ground segment operations. The SSyOE will provide support to the operations preparation for recurrent S3 satellites into the existing systems. The SSyOE will interface with project teams on the implementation of system upgrades to support major operations projects, including System MidTerm Evolution Plan, recurrent satellites, and any System hardware and operating system obsolescence upgrade, where this affects the S3 ground segment and system operations. The SSyOE will perform the following routine operations tasks Definition and maintenance of system operations procedures, including System and ground segment procedures and operations guides Definition and maintenance of JORPs and OICDs with external partners Liaison with the spacecraft operations team to ensure the continuity and optimisation of spacecraft monitoring and control activities Liaison and coordination with the ground segment facility operations teams and system operations analysts to ensure the continuity and optimisation of ground segment and mission operations through procedure and operations guide updates, configuration changes, database or user interface changes etc. Interface and coordination with the systems maintenance teams and industry representatives to ensure optimised performance, including participating in the definition and implementation of any changes Provision of support to operational ground segment analyses Provision of standbyoncall support as system operations engineer, on an as needed basis.
