Job description Our customer, EUMETSAT, will be managing the routine mission operations of the Sentinel3 low Earth orbiting spacecraft for the European Copernicus programme. The first Sentinel3 spacecraft is scheduled for launch in October 2015. The aims of the Sentinel3 mission include measurement of seasurface topography, see and landsurface temperature, and ocean and landsurface colour in support of ocean forecasting and environmental monitoring. The activities are conducted under the responsibility of the EUMETSAT Copernicus Sentinel3 Operations Team within the Operations and User Support Department with the support of the Technical and Scientific Support Department. Responsibilities We are looking for a Data Processing System engineer who will support the Sentinel3 Operations with respect to EUMETSATs Marine Payload Data Ground Segment PDGS maintenance in particular anomaly correction and software release process in the area of DFEP and L0, and necessary evolutions, including the necessary coordination of the data processing systems engineering for the related interfaces with the rest of the Sentinel3 ground segment at our customers premises in Darmstadt, Germany. Your duties will include tasks such as preparing and providing the support of the daytoday operation and maintenance of the PDGS which is currently in the preparation phase analysis and testing of the facilities handling of anomalies, design of upgrades and configuration changes for these facilities being focal point when it comes to integrating the individual software facilities into a data processing system, covering all aspects of system integration and testing, including endtoend testing of the production system setting up and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures coordination with external providers of maintenance services participation in the specification and development of specific monitoring tools for Sentinel3 In support to operations, you may also be required to provide on call support as part of a team of maintenance engineers, especially for the Sentinel3 commissioning and initial operations phases. This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date in October 2015. Qualifications Competencies Applicants shall have an university degree, in a relevant discipline such as computer science or similar or other suitable qualification. Applicants shall have the following background at least two years experience in maintaining and engineering of evolutions of large scale software systems mission instrument data processing and specially related to DFEP and LO processing in data processing systems Experience in software development lifecycles Software debugging and profiling tools e.g. GDB, DBX, IBM Purify, Valgrind Source code control systems, preferably Subversion and CVS Competence in SW testing, unit test suite maintenance, automated testing, verification and validation Applicants shall have the following technical skills and experience Experience with DFEP processors as used by S3 and LO processing within a framework based solution PDGS for Sentinel3 Networking technologies and tools CCSDS protocols, Space Data Link Protocols, TCPIP, UDP multicast, PGM, FTP, Wireshark CCJava programming language experience in a UNIXLinux based environment Knowledge of Scripting languages Python, Perl, TclTk, shell Knowledge of web technologies, programming and markup languages e.g. Apache, CGI, JavaScript, XML and related technologies XPATH, SVG, etc. Fluent written and spoken English is required The position requires a great deal of independence and selfmotivation.
