Documentation and Configuration Management Engineer

This is a permanent position, calling for at least 5 years experience of documentation and configuration management including build, deployment and installation activities on large, softwareintensive and highavailability operational systems. You will be placed on assignment based near Frankfurt in Germanyfor several years. Candidates should be available to start in August 2016 at the latest. Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. Vast quantities of data are produced and user communities throughout the world are able to access both current and historical data sets. The demanding realtime environment places much emphasis on adherence to quality and configuration management standards and procedures. The main working language is English. The role will embrace Implementing Documentation and Configuration Management plans, processes and working practices and reviewing and proposing improvements Supporting a wide range of users and delivering training sessions on Documentation and Configuration Management procedures Ensuring that documentation is managed according to working practices Supporting the identification of configuration items software, hardware and documents to be managed. Registering those documents and items in the CM and DM databases, tracking any new versions Supporting the administration of Anomaly and Change Control Boards organised to review and approve anomaly correction and changes to configuration baselines Liaising with external partners joint configuration boards Supporting the control changes impacting identified configuration items, in particular ensuring that any new item version is deployed only after the formal review and approval Supporting the monitoring and control of hardware and software installation activities, and the deployment of operational documentation procedures Maintaining mapping between changes and software, hardware and document items Contributing to improvements of CM and DM tools and participating in testing of new releases Performing consistency checks on Documentation and Configuration Management databases The key experience and attributes sought are Documentation and configuration management standards e.g. CMMI, ISO or ECSS Documentation management tools as a basic administrator or advanced user e.g. Oracle UCM Configuration management tools as a basic administrator or advanced user e.g. Serena Dimensions or Clearcase Use of SQL queries And more generally with systemsoftware development processes and methodologies A university degree or equivalent Knowledge of some of the following would be advantageous Scripting languages e.g. vb.net Source code control tools CVS, Subversion ...
