Ecopetrol SA , Colombia 's national oil company, is exploring the sale of its stake in gas investment company Invercolsa SA, two people with knowledge of the matter said, following a multiyear legal battle over part of the holding. Westar Energy and Kansas City Power & Light will both ask for rate increases in 2015 to recover some of the costs of environmental upgrades at the LaCygne power plant. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that the companies, which co-own the plant in Linn County, spent $1.2 billion on the upgrades and have recovered about half the costs through previous rate cases.

US firms seek data breach immunity in EU courts - report

(Telecompaper) The US government is trying to gain immunity for online security breaches by major US companies operating in the EU in negotiations for the Trade in Services Agreement (Tisa) in Geneva, according to leaked documents seen by the Guardian. Such an agreement would prevent US firms operating in the EU from being prosecuted for data breaches or claims of negligence in host countries, forcing EU governments to pursue cases through EU courts. According to public service unions, the leaked documents reveal how the US plans to protect US businesses from regulations that could hinder their entry into sensitive areas such as healthcare and government data handling. Former EU commissioner and Christian Democrat MEP Viviane Reding wrote on Twitter that she would oppose any provision undermining the right to privacy.
