About The Role The RAL Space, Space Engineering Technology Division is recruiting Space Systems Engineers in order to support a growing number of ongoing and new programmes. This portfolio of programmes covers a wide range of applications Spacecraft Systems, Space Physics, Earth Observation and Technology Development and will provide the successful candidates with opportunities to provide technical leadership of a range of projects involving space hardware at all stages of the space project lifecycle from preproject feasibility studies, through to flight operations. Depending on the mix of experience and skill sets of the successful candidates, the eventual positions will be tailored to focus on one or more of the following areas Concurrent Design, Technology Roadmapping, Space Physics and Earth Observation. The posts offer longer term professional development opportunities in Systems Engineering specialisation and Programme Management. Duties and responsibilities for the role include Systems Engineering input to existing and future space projects leading the requirement definition and flow down process management of design concept development, preliminary design and detailed design detailed project work in planning, executing and reporting of tests, verification and calibration activities commissioning and operation of space hardware preparation of proposals for future lines of work management of significant work packages andor small projects line management of junior members of staff within the systems engineering group Personal Skills and Attributes It is essential that you have undergraduate degree in Engineering or Physics or equivalent. You must have knowledge in one space related engineering discipline as well as Aerospace project experience outside of undergraduate or postgraduate degrees. Systems Engineering experience is essential as well as having experience of making recommendations to collaborators and subject matter experts. You must have experience with design andor analysis software tools and also have good computer skills. It is desirable that you have project experience, space project experience and spacecraft systems engineering experience. Experience in the application of a range of ECSS standards would also be beneficial as well as being familiar with principles of concurrent design. Experience of technology development planning, bread boarding would also be beneficial in this role.
