Main responsibilities For our activities in ESOC, we are currently looking for a Data Systems Engineer to cover the areas of the following two Mission Data Systems MDS Sentinels Mission Control Systems Engineering support Sentinels Simulators Engineering support. Initially the activity of the candidate will be fully dedicated to the Sentinels MCS Engineering support, however it should not be excluded that at a later stage tasks related to the Sentinels Simulators Engineering support may be covered. For both of these Mission data systems, the activity of the candidate will include Specification of the software requirements of these systems in collaboration with the operational users Definition and specification of their internal and external interfaces in agreement with the relevant parties Acceptance of the deliverables received from industry, ensuring correctness, completeness and compliance to the applicable requirements Support to the mission operations staff as required in the various operational phases, including System Validation Tests, simulation campaign and in software support coordination as part of the Flight Control Team during critical operational phases such as launches Coordination with other internal ESOC or external units, e.g. with the unit supplying mission data systems infrastructure and with the unit supplying the ICT systems and services Participation in research and development activities in the area of mission data systems Participate in the testing and validation of the various infrastructure elements used by the Sentinels MDS as well as definition of the future evolution of these systems Collaboration with other missions to ensure crossmission consistency and harmonization between Sentinel and other missions MDS systems, spinin from other missions into the Sentinel MDS and spinout from the Sentinel system to future systems including, but not limited to, future Sentinel missions. The tasks to be performed require considerable initiative, flexibility and independence in executing the assigned tasks. Ideal candidate Essentials The candidate shall have the following skills Good knowledge of Mission Control Systems for Earth Observation satellites and the EO MCS Kernel Experience as Software Coordinator for Earth Observation Missions including prelaunch activities and launch campaigns of satellites Familiarity with MICONYS and in particular extensive knowledge in the operational deployment of external systems EDDS, GFTS, DARC Ability to understand and accurately predict behaviour of complex systems Fluent in English Wellorganised, able to prioritise and manage several activities in parallel Familiarity with programmingscripting languages e.g. C, Java, JavaScript, shell scripting Capability to interact with users in customer oriented manner this include 1st and 2nd line support Experience working with operational missions, and particular previous experience with CopernicusSentinels missions Experience with the ESOC working environment including Procedures and Quality Management System QMS The ESOC MOIIT services e.g. ESOC operational networks, baselines etc. The ESOC SDE environment including the production and execution of Acceptance Test Plans. Desirables Experience in softwaresystem design methodologies Familiarity with effective teamwork principles and team building aspects A proactive attitude towards problem solving and the ability to achieve solutions as required. Location ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands Description Telecommunication Systems Engineer in the Telecommunication TTC Systems and Techniques Section, Radio Frequency Systems Division, Radio Frequency Systems and Payloads Office, Electrical Department, Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality. The Telecommunication TTC Systems and Techniques Section provides functional support to ESA projects and carries out technological research RD in the fields of telecommunication and TTC systems including secure telecommunication link aspects. You will be a member of a multidisciplinary system engineering team interacting with operational programmes and future programmes and will support the SEP Division with the following activities Supporting the specification of Ground Segment components. Supporting the consolidation, evolution and maintenance of the Ground Segment reference architecture. This includes Requirements engineering, including requirements analysis and validation, requirements allocation, tracing and requirements change control Functional analysis and architectureinterface design applying system modelling engineering methods and techniques. System analyses, performed for the purpose of resolving requirements conflicts, decomposing and allocating requirements, assessing system effectiveness.
