Job description For our customer, the European Space Agency ESA, we are seeking an experienced space Ground Segment System Engineer to work at ESAs ESTEC site in Noordwijk, The Netherlands. Responsibilities You will be assigned as integrated support to the EUESA Galileo satellite navigation projects Ground Mission Segment Engineering and Elements Unit. The main duties include Support the consolidation and maintenance of the Galileo 1st and 2nd Generation G1GG2G ground segment requirements in line with the system baseline Provide support and act as interface for updates to G1GG2G ground segment applicable ICDs in coordination with Interface coordinators Interface with System team on technical issues arising from segment technical notes dealing with G1GG2G ground segment technical aspects Process G1GG2G ground segment Noncompliance, RFD, and RFWs Contribute to G1GG2G IVQ activities in support of the G1GG2G ground segment AIV Manager Follow up G1GG2G ground segment design and implementation both at element and segment level, including SW architecture, performance aspects and HWSW COTS selection Assess the operability aspects of the G1GG2G ground segment functions Assess the Data Analysis functions of the Ground Segment, i.e. consistent management of data within the ground segment reception, storage and controlled access to archived data, data security confidentiality, integrity and availability generation and presentation of associated result display and reporting integration of mission and technical data management of system configuration items application of data analysis technologies Provide technical support for the preparation, organization and management of all the G1GG2G ground segment and system reviews Participate, in Galileorelated reviews and technical evaluation boards, in particular contributing to G1GG2G ground segment requirements consolidation and design reviews Contribute to ESA procurement activities for G1GG2G ground segment In performing these duties, you are expected to interface closely with the Galileo Ground Segment Engineering Team, the Galileo System Engineering Team, the Galileo Security Office, the Operations Team, the related industrial teams and the Product Assurance Office. In addition, you may have to support the definition and execution of activities of the host Software Systems Division, from which this integrated support is provided, in hisher domain of expertise. Since many of the activities will take place in industry or at operational sites, the incumbent must be prepared to travel on a regular basis. This is a fulltime position located at ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands. The requested start of work is September 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. Qualifications Competencies The successful candidate shall have A Masters Degree or equivalent qualification in Physics, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering or a related field. A background in space ground segment systems engineering including software systems and the associated IT infrastructure. At least 5 years experience in space project systemlevel engineering, design and implementation. Knowledge and experience in Big Data technologies i.e. databases, machine learning, natural language processing, and visualisation techniques Desirable Background and experience in satellite navigation and security systems is desirable Knowledge of ground segment and satellite operations and infrastructure is an important asset Knowledge of European space industry ECSS standards is an asset. In particular prior experience in the Galileo project is very relevant. You will support a missioncritical payload data ground system providing satellite data products to meteorological services worldwide. You will be part of a small multinational team. You will work in a complex Linuxbased environment comprising a large number of powerful, stateoftheart server and storage systems. You will use and extend your experience on system level architecture, interfaces, data flows. Summary objective We are looking for a degreeeducated system engineer to work in a complex satellite data processing system. Our team supports the customer onsite in Darmstadt to process and deliver meteorological data to international users complete, in time and with good quality. Responsibilities Duties Performance monitoring and preventive maintenance to ensure continuous, complete and timely production and delivery of the products to the users Anomaly investigation, root cause analysis and Anomaly Reports handling this will also include providing recommendations for workarounds to mitigate satellite anomalies Support evolution of the software building, packaging, deployment, integration and testing in test environments and operational environment. Maintenance and update of operational documentations Perform technical analysis of system architecture and specification evolutions or major upgrades of the operational ground systems. Contribute to proposals, and to the IVV activities for major evolutions of the operational ground systems.
