EPSSG System Design Engineering support

Description The activities for this consultancy will focus on the establishing and maintaining system design justifications, system design, tradeoffs, and system budgets. The activity requires one key person for the duration of the consultancy contract. Specific separate Instrument Functional Chain Teams IFCT are being established to ensure that each instrument chain is addressed in an endtoend fashion for Radiometric, Spectral and Geolocation aspects. The primary focus of this key person will be on system aspects not covered by the IFCT however participation in and support to the IFCTs is foreseen. The tasks and responsibilities of the key person to be undertaken during the EPSSG Phase B will typically include the following Analysis and justification of the system design. Provide input to the system design justification document, especially concerning end to end performance aspects. Identify all system areas that require a budget to be maintained. Perform an apportionment between Space and Ground segments and any other element involved Control and document all technical budgets in accordance with ECSS standards Monitor lower level technical specifications and budgets for compliance to system apportionment. Provide support to the IFCT and when needed ensure IFCT results are documented in a systematic manner. Provide support to general system engineering activities o Preparation and maintenance of system technical specification o ad hoc internal reviews o system level formal reviews SRR, PDR o Provide support to progress meetings o Support IVV activities These activities will involve interactions with other EUMETSAT divisions. Travel within Europe, to the United States and possibly other parts of the world may have to be undertaken for certain tasks. Profile The key person shall have the following experience and background University degree in the domain of engineering, science, or equivalent. At least 5 years of experience in the field of engineering of space andor ground system. Experience of large space systems space andor ground segment. Demonstrated capability to clearly document a system design and justification Demonstrated ability to analyse system level requirements and apportion to lower level elements. Experience of establishing and maintaining end to end budgets. The following experience would be additional assets Experience in the area of LowEarth Orbiting satellites LEO. Aurora has the opportunity to expand our support within the Science and Robotic Exploration Directorate DSRE. Aurora currently has a team of 30 engineers and scientists. Overview Within the SREM Programme Management Support Office, The PRODEX Office is the Agency structure in charge of the implementation of the PRODEX Program. The PRODEX office implements experiments and instruments prepared at national level, selected andor endorsed by ESA in accordance with its own rules and procedures. The PRODEX Office coordinates the experiment development and implementation, awards industrial contracts and implements, manages and monitors the corresponding industrial developments. The contractor will report directly to the Head of the PRODEX Office and will support the Head of the PRODEX Office. The principle tasks of the Experiment System Engineer will include Providing inputs to and support the definition of the programme of work for the development of the PRODEX experiments within the scientific institutes, in line with the instructions received from the head of the PRODEX Office. This task will include supporting the preparation, implementation and monitoring of the research agreements between the Institutes and the PRODEX Office. Assisting in the preparation, implementation and monitoring of industrial contracts. The selected contractor must be willing to adapt to the individual and specific management style of each project and partners involved, in order to guarantee a successful development. The selected contractor will also have to assist with the administrative tasks of the PRODEX Office and with administrative tasks related to experiment and project implementation. Specific qualification requirements University degree or equivalent in physics or related area. At least 4 years relevant professional experience. You must be able to work well in English both written and spoken. A demonstrated experience in interacting with scientific institutions and industrial partners, coupled with experience in the defining and designing instruments in one of the domains of the Program. Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and cooperate with a wide range of staff internally and externally. The candidate should be a team player, willing to work in a multitasking mode, quickly adapting in a dynamic environment.
