Senior Engineer, Spacecraft Payload Ref SES0603 Region Europe Location Isle of Man Douglas Company SES Category Space Operations Position Staff Published 20150731 Context The Senior Engineer, Spacecraft Payload, will be responsible for the oversight of the companys contracts with the satellite payload manufacturers. Working closely together with the SES Spacecraft Field Offices, Space Operations and Ground Infrastructures groups, the position involves supervising the development of multiple satellite telecommunication payloads and of local ground station antennas. The candidate will need to ensure SES SLs SES Satellite Leasing best interests are protected, reviewing as appropriate milestones and timelines to ensure that contractual and programmatic targets are met. Attendance at key milestone meetings events throughout the development and manufacturing of the satellite payloads will also be required design reviews, test readiness reviews, management meetings, testing, etc.. The role will require a high level of interface with other SES departments who support these various activities. Primary Responsibilities Key Result Areas Together with the SES Field Offices, perform the oversight of SES SL payloads development and, as appropriate, attend relevant meetings and reviews with both SES internal and external stake holders spacecraft payload manufacturers, ground segment service providers, Field Offices safeguarding SES SL interests in the case of schedule or programmatic issues arising. Early detection and identification of critical problem areas throughout the design and construction phases of the satellite projects. Interface with SESinternal teams, the satellite payload manufacturers and ground segment antenna service providers as appropriate, in the management of SES SL procurement activities. Support and advise on all SES SL investment decisions related Support the management and operations of local ground station antennas. Maintain a wide satellite payload industry review and be proactive in keeping SES informed of market developments, competitive ventures and opportunities Competencies Competencies in the fields of satellite payload architecture, design and manufacturing. Ability to work on technical and programmatic issues with manufacturers, SES field office team and specialists from SES headquarters. Excellent communications skills both written and oral. Negotiation skills, assertiveness and ability to seek working solutions within program constraints. Selfmotivated and capable to work both independently and within a team. Strong ability to establish good business relationships with various internal and external stakeholders from multidisciplinary backgrounds. Experience Qualifications University Degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Physics or equivalent 5 years work experience in payload and system engineering related to spacecraft disciplines Knowledge in Spacecraft system engineering Payload and RF equipment, repeater and antenna subsystem Link Power budgets Space Hardware Assembly Integration and testing The candidate should have a broad systems view of the satellite and mission fields.
