DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 1100 PM AST (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Gaston was located near latitude 12.6 North, longitude 30.7 West. Gaston is moving toward the west-northwest near 18 mph (30 km/h) and this general motion with a slight decrease in forward speed is expected during the next couple of days. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is expected, and Gaston is forecast to become a hurricane Tuesday night or Wednesday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles (95 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1005 mb (29.68 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- None. Belmont fire near Gaston College campus destroys business, shuts down Wilkinson Updated at

Fire crews in Belmont had to shut down Wilkinson Boulevard near the Gaston College campus early Wednesday morning in order to battle a structure fire that destroyed a machine shop. The fire at Automated Card Feeding started around 6 a.m. and destroyed the building where owner David Marrow built machines for the furniture industry.
