Metop Spacecraft Operations Engineering support 1313062 Job Description The selected candidate will be integrated into the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team, led by the Metop Spacecraft Operations Manager, within the Flight Operations Division of the Operations and User Services Department. Typical tasks include Support to the routine operations of Metop A, B and preparing for MetopC, comprising Provision of operational expertise to one or more platform subsystems andor payload instruments Maintain the corresponding operations documentation and flight procedures, including the update and operational validation of procedures releases in a configuration controlled environment Perform trending and performance analysis on the corresponding subsystems and instruments, including definition and possibly prototyping of additional analysis checks where necessary Investigations into satellite anomalies. This may require a close cooperation with the Operations Support Entity in ESTEC and Industry Participation in the satellite oncall support Identification and support to implementation of system and process improvements concerning the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team responsibilities and interfaces. Support to the system and operations preparation of Metop Second Generation satellites Provide inputs and or review the definition of system and satellite operational concepts Review space to ground interface specifications and flight operations manuals Support the definition of tools and processes required to prepare for and operate the satellites. Support to the system and operations preparation of other LEO satellites Sentinel3 and Jason CS development. This framework is used for pipeline data processing for all Herschel data Graphical user interface GUI development and maintenance Development and maintenance of the Herschel Interactive Analysis system. This system is used by the astronomical community to exploit Herschel data in detail Development and maintenance of data structures, including accessing them locally and from object oriented and relational databases Development and maintenance of numerical libraries Setting up and providing access to webservices working in the VO context Writing and maintenance of documentation Provision and maintenance of test harnesses Support of the data processing technical assistants when running the operational environment to generate Herschel standard products. The payload onboard LPF will consist of the European LISA Technology Package LTP and a contribution provided by the NASAJPL, the Disturbance Reduction System DRS. The Science and Technology Operations Centre STOC is the point of interface to the scientific community, and is responsible for the payload scheduling, quicklook data analysis, data processing and archiving. During the operational phase of the mission extensive stays at ESOC Darmstadt, Germany may be needed. Engineer Specific tasks requirements for this position 1.Activities during the development phase a STOC system engineering The service to be provided by the Operations Engineer will entail supporting the system engineering activities of the STOC. This includes Define and maintain the toplevel system design of the Science Operations Ground Segment in the different mission phases Support the definition of the interfaces between the STOC and the MOC and the writing maintenance of the STOCMOC ICD Define the interfaces between the STOC and the LTP DRS and write the STOCLTP and STOC DRS ICDs Write the STOC Operations Plans Write the STOC Operations Procedures b STOC SW development The Operations Engineer will i monitor the development of the software modules e.g. Mission Planning, Data Ingestion, Simulator, ii be responsible of the installation of these tools and their configuration control at STOC and iii perform their acceptance tests. c STOC integration Ground Segment Tests The Operations Engineer will provide service support for the definition, preparation and execution of i the STOC integration tests, ii the Ground Segment tests SOVTs and iii the STOC Simulations. This includes Prepare test plans, test data and procedures to applied during these tests Participate in the tests, the debriefings and write the necessary test reports and raise SPRs as well as nonconformance reports as appropriate 2. Activities during the operational phase a STOC System Engineering The Operations Engineer will continue to provide service activities in operations with the activities performed during the development phase. This includes Maintenance of the interfaces between the STOC and the MOC, LTP DRS and their relevant ICDs Maintenance of the STOC Operations Plans Maintenance of the STOC Operations Procedures b STOC operational ruties The Operations Engineer will be responsible for providing a service to a number of operational duties.
