Description Euclid is a highprecision survey mission in the Cosmic Vision Programme of ESA designed to answer fundamental questions on Dark Energy and Dark Matter. Euclid will map the largescale structure of the universe over the entire extragalactic sky out to redshifts of 2 about 10 billion years ago, thus covering the period over which dark energy accelerated the universe expansion. The mission is optimized for two primary cosmological probes Weak gravitational Lensing WL and Baryonic Acoustic Oscillations BAO. The ESAC team is forming the Euclid Science Operations Centre SOC, which will build the Science Ground Segment in collaboration with the Euclid Consortium. The Euclid SOC will execute and monitor the sky survey, perform initial processing on the science telemetry stream and provide the Euclid archive. The Euclid SOC will work with the Euclid Consortium in the area of instrument operations coordination. The candidate will work on the survey planning system, which will plan the Euclid Sky Survey and the instrument commanding system, which will be in use during the operational phases of the mission. For any potential candidate to fill this service position, experience in interacting with the science community would be an advantage. The selected person must be willing operate in a team environment and to travel. Good interpersonal and communication skills are an advantage. The person should be comfortable in an international working environment and be fluent in English, one of the official languages of ESA. Requirements Specific tasks requirements for this position The service to be provided by the candidate chosen for this position will encompass contributing to the system requirements definition, design, implementation and testing of the survey planning and instrument command generation systems to be used within the Euclid Science Ground Segment. The candidate will develop prototype code for the survey planning and instrument commanding tools.The development will be in done in Java to enable reuse of existing code from other missions located at ESAC. The candidate will work in the Engineering team of the Euclid SOC under the System Engineer. They will interface with the major stakeholders of these systems the Sky Survey Working Group, SOC Calibration and Operations Team, Instrument Operations Teams and Euclid Mission Operations Centre. The candidate should have a solid Java background. The candidate should have a good knowledge of ECSS standards and be aware of required documentation on a large project. The candidate should be selfmotivated and be able to work independently. The ability to take initiative and proactively seek solutions to problems would be valued. Support to Science Operations Venus Express

Description ESA is operating and developing several spacecraft to Solar System bodies, a.o. Mars Express, Rosetta, Venus Express VEX, BepiColombo, Solar Orbiter. For these missions the science operations will be located at ESAC. One of the components in science operations is the task of generating the commands to operate the scientific payload of a spacecraft. Three main entities are involved in this task the PI teams having built the experiments, a Mission Operations Center MOC which coordinates the satellite operations and a Science Operations Center SOC which coordinates the operations of the scientific payload. The main tasks of the VEX SOC are defined in the Science Management Plan for the respective missions and are summarized here a Definition of scientific operations for all mission phases with Principal Investigator PI team support. b Mission planning and implementation of experiment operation schedules. c Coordination and prechecking of command sequences for the operations of their payload before submission to the MOC. d Support the PI teams with software necessary to prepare the operational timelines. e Together with the PI teams, the creation of a summary of the main scientific results, at regular intervals or for mission highlights. The VEX Science Operations are led by the SOC Operations Manager in close coordination with the Project Scientist, who is responsible for optimizing the science return of VEX. The Venus Express Mission Manager has the overall responsibility for the Venus Express mission and its implementation. The SOC Operations Manager is supported by a number of operational engineers and scientists forming the VEX Science Operations Center VSOC team. A basic principle of the Venus Express science operations is the requirement for a strong involvement by each PI team for the preparation of the science operations. The Science Working Team SWT advises the project scientist on science matters for the mission and indirectly assists VSOC in elaborating science strategies and maximizing the scientific return of the mission. The Science Activity Plan and the Medium Term Plans are the basis for all science operations planning.
