One of the defining features of the Xbox One is that it has an HDMI input socket, allowing you to plug a wide range of media devices into the console. The intended purpose of this HDMI socket is to allow you to watch TV and play games side-by-side on the same screen -- but in practice, you can plug just about anything into the Xbox One's HDMI socket, including the PS4. The PS4 ships with a reasonably-sized 500GB hard drive, but it's quite lackluster in terms of speed. The drive only spins at 5400RPM, but it can be easily upgraded to a better drive without voiding your warranty. So, what happens when the default drive is replaced with a solid state drive or a hybrid drive? The real-world tests are in, and the results are actually quite surprising.

I had pre-ordered my PS4 on Amazon immediately following the Sony presentation at E3 in June, and it was in my hands only five months later. Over the weekend, I installed a new hard drive, desperately tried to connect to PSN, downloaded a ton of games, and played remotely on the PS Vita. The launch experience was a mixed bag for me, but I was left feeling nothing but enthusiasm for the potential of this new generation of hardware.
