Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience University degree or equivalent qualification in Electronic Engineering, Space Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related discipline Extensive experience of implementing complex systems, developing and utilizing EGSEs, modelling monitoring and control data in compliance with the ESA SCOS monitoring and control systems Knowledge of modern software engineering practices and standards applied to realtime systems Knowledge of space systems and space system engineering Experience with realtime software, Object Oriented design methods, UML, XML, Operating systems, SCOS 2000 and the SCOS 2000 MIB ICD Experience with the PUS and its tailoring Fluency in English is mandatory. Realtime simulation infrastructure and tools based on different platforms, including LINUX environments. This infrastructure can support both hardwareintheloop and manintheloop simulation. Support to ESA project teams in activities related to the procurement of EGSE for space systems, subsystems and instruments including preparation of requirement specifications, monitoring of industrial activities, acceptance of industrial products and participation in project reviews. Support to ESA project teams in activities related to the development of space system database software and utilization including support to specification, architecture, implementation, software problem solving, exchange and interfaces with external systems, data modelling verification of consistency and completeness of data, compliance with technical documentation, project reviews. The Mission EarthCARE is an ESA Earth observation space mission that aims to quantify cloudaerosolradiation interactions for inclusion in climate and numerical weather forecasting models. The Challenge We are looking for an experienced Spacecraft Operations Engineer SOE to be part of the flight operations team based at ESOC in Darmstadt. The position is primarily to support the EarthCARE mission, but with the possibility of supporting other missions within the Earth Observation Missions Division. The primary area of responsibility for this position is onboard Data Handling. On EarthCARE, this includes the On Board Computer, including the Remote Interface Unit and the Mass Memory and Formatting Unit, together with their application software. The candidate will also provide support to other spacecraft subsystem engineers in the flight control team for subsystems which contain embedded software. The candidate may be requested to take responsibility and perform activities for additional subsystems or systems, depending on his skills and experience. Other areas of responsibility specific to EarthCARE are Validation, test and operation of the Mission Control System MCS Setup, validation, test and operation of the Onboard Software Management systems Validation and test of the Data Handling Subsystem of the Simulator.
