A new job opportunity has arisen for an UNIX System Software Engineer to will work in the Technical and Scientific Support Department Ground Segment Infrastructure Division team, supporting mainly the TCE maintenance and further development. Typical tasks and responsibilities include Installation and configuration of operating system and other software, tuning of operating systems parameters to optimize performance analysis, planning and carrying out of HW and SW upgrades or reconfigurations, taking care of compatibility issues between subsystems monitoring of the system performance, investigation into HW and system SW problems and carrying out the relevant corrective actions provision of firstlevel support to the users of the system ensuring that in case of HW or system SW failures the operational configuration can be restored, including the definition, maintenance, carrying out of backup procedures Coordination with shared infrastructures, e.g. networks, storage network infrastructure SNI, for operations and maintenance liaison with the external providers of HW and system SW maintenance for the request and follow up of maintenance interventions administration and installation of databases administration of user accounts support to SW development and maintenance in relation to the utilization of system resources implementation and maintenance of scripts andor procedures where applicable for the automated andor controlled execution of the above activities, generation or update of technical documentation in relation to system upgrades provision of standbyoncall support if needed under special circumstances provision of support, as required, to critical operations. All applicants should have an expert knowledge and significant work experience of the UNIX operating systems and be familiar with as many as possible of the following system software environments On IBM computers AIX, configuration of pseries servers, GPFS, TSM backup, NIM On DELL computers SuSE Linux andor RedHat Linux Virtualization based on VMWare products Network based on Ethernet, EMC RAID arrays and virtual appliances SAN technology TCPIP internetworking and the related network protocols and applications, e.g. NIS, NFS,DNS, SNMP, FTP On Sun computers Solaris operating systems.Experience in the installation and maintenance of ORACLE databases, the maintenance of an Online Documentation system, FirstSecond Level user support and the Automatic Service Provisioning using Cloud technologies would be an advantage. All candidates must have a University or similar degree in a relevant discipline and be fluent in English, both spoken and written. Knowledge of French would be an advantage.

Summary To support the Science and Technology Operations Centre of the Lisa Pathfinder mission, a technology demonstrator for the LISA mission. Objective The Science and Technology Operations Centre STOC is the point of interface to the scientific community, and is responsible for the payload scheduling, quicklook data analysis, data processing and archiving. The engineer will be developing this infrastructure. Responsibilities Duties 1. Activities during the development phase a STOC system engineering Define and maintain the toplevel system design of the Science Operations Ground Segment in the different mission phases Support the definition of the interfaces between the STOC and the MOC and the writing maintenance of the STOCMOC ICD Define the interfaces between the STOC and the LTP DRS and write the STOCLTP and STOC DRS ICDs Write the STOC Operations Plans Write the STOC Operations Procedures b STOC SW development Monitor the development of the software modules e.g. Mission Planning, Data Ingestion, Simulator, Be responsible of the installation of these tools and their configuration control at STOC Perform their acceptance tests. c STOC integration Ground Segment Tests The Operations Engineer will provide service support for the definition, preparation and execution of the STOC integration tests, the Ground Segment tests SOVTs and the STOC Simulations Prepare test plans, test data and procedures to applied during these tests 2. The service provided by the Operations Engineer will cover being responsible for the installation of these tools and their configuration control at STOC.
