Airbus Defence and Space provides high valueadded solutions including satellite data acquisition, operational emergency planning systems, geoinformation creation, database management and outsourced hosting. 2 Vacancies for Earth Observation Specialists have arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Farnborough. The Space team at Airbus Defence and Space, in Farnborough, are focused on the exploitation of Earth Observation data, primarily acquired from spacebased platforms. The scope of work undertaken by the team includes large space infrastructure projects hosting, operations and maintenance of ground segment systems, platforms for hosting industrial processing capabilities, operational services supporting the uptake and exploitation of Earth Observation EO data across Europe and the downstream exploitation of EO data including the development and delivery of EOenabled products and services. The role of the Earth Observation Specialist is to support current and future RD and consultancy projects funded through European or National Institutions. The scope of relevant RD and consultancy projects includes support to consultancy studies exploring the potential for new EO application domains, the development of new EOenabled solutions and services, feasibility studies to determine the operational potential of EOenabled service concepts and implementation of operational and delivery of EOenabled services. The Earth Observation Specialist will also contribute to the identification and realisation of new business opportunities within the downstream EO applications domain by supporting the Space Business Development Manager in the preparation and submission of relevant proposals and offers. As a result, the Earth Observation Specialist has the potential to contribute along the entire journey from new EO application concept to realisation of operational service delivery. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include To provide expertise in Earth Observation and Geographic Information Systems to support application development within the Space team Generation of ideas and concepts for new and innovative EOenabled products and services Technical development work implementing EOenabled products and services To provide a leading role within technical project work within European and National project frameworks To participate in consortiumbased project teams, with a degree of knowledge and confidence to potentially lead specific Work Packages andor coordinate partners in fulfilling project goals Technical development work Technical report writing Consultancy studies into the potential for EO exploitation Consultancy studies into the potential for integrated applications Supporting assessments of the technical and economic viability of new EO application products or services To provide technical support to the bidding process within the Space department To consider EO and GISrelated business and user requirements to support the preparation of detailed specifications for EOenabled service solutions To attend meetings with other Airbus Defence and Space staff and with European and National consortium partners, as appropriate To maintain awareness of evolving EO and GIS technologies and techniques relevant to Airbus Defence and Spaces current and future position in this industry To support the development and training of internal colleagues in the area of EO, where relevant We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Relevant post graduate qualifications in Geomatics, Physical Geography, Environmental Science, Applied Remote Sensing or related fields Experience in applied use of Earth Observation data, both SAR and optical advantageous but demonstrably expert in at least one Excellent awareness of and ability in the exploitation of image processing techniques Experience of relevant image processing software packages such as ERDAS, ENVI, eCognition, ESRI, NEST, Sentinel1 Toolbox etc Relevant programming experience or aptitude an advantage Python, IDL Strong oral and written communication skills in English Knowledge of European and ESA programmes, particularly Copernicus would be an asset Strong Microsoft Office skills Strong ability to manage own time through the effective prioritisation and management of workloads Highly developed sense of responsibility and ability to take ownership and make decisions Ability to work under pressure and to respect deadlines Ability to work both independently and effectively with others Excellent communication skills Highly flexible and proactive approach to work An independent, investigative and freethinking approach to innovation an ideas person Motivated self starter with genuine interest in Earth Observation Interest in the commercial exploitation of Earth Observation Please apply on line for this vacancy on line at our careers site www.jobs.airbusgroup.com with your CV attached. This vacancy regards a position within the EO data quality control operations domain. The Copernicus Space Component Data Access system CSCDA is the interface for accessing the Earth Observation EO products from the Copernicus Space Component and it provides a comprehensive and coordinated access to all Copernicus EO space data, from over 30 Copernicus Contributing Missions CCMs. The CSCDA project is managed by ESA as an integral part of the Copernicus Space Component Programme and with funding from the EC. The CSCDA consists of several layers that are in control of different aspects of the overall system. One of these layers is the Coordinated Data Access System CDS. The CDS layer of the CSCDA ensures a coordinated and integrated service to Copernicus users and is composed of five service domains customer interface SCI, data dissemination CDD, data quality CQC, overall reporting CRP and system validation and configuration CCO. As part of the CDS v3 contract, and on behalf of ESA, Airbus Defence and Space is in charge of the overall operations as well as the hosting of the operational infrastructure. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Provision of expertise and technical advice in Earth Observation for the implementation of the Copernicus Quality Control CQC tasks and service, applying protocols, processes and standards relevant to the Copernicus Space Component Data Access System CSCDA, in line with the Service Level Agreements and Key Performance Indicators applicable to the contract Support SAR and Optical image quality assessment of sample data from various satellite imagery missions Investigate issues and anomalies in data quality raised by the EO data users Support harmonisation and standardisation of image and metadata parameters, as well as processing and quality procedures, used by the individual data providers Attend and present as a technical expert at conferences on EO data quality, as well as contributing to publications on these topics Carry out research in support of the CQC service, maintain awareness of and develop EO techniques relevant to the provision of the service Support the CQC domain leader for monthly, quarterly and adhoc reporting. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience BSc. degree in Geomatics, Physical Geography, Environmental Science or related fields MSc. or PhD utilising satellite image processing and analysis would be an asset Proven experience in EO data handling Must have good knowledge of image processing techniques Experience of software such as ERDAS, IDRISI, ENVI, ESRI, NEST and Sentinel1 toolbox would be an asset Good skills in Optical and SAR image analysis Knowledge of ESA programmes, particularly the Copernicus Space Component programme, would be an asset Ability to work as part of a team as well as individually Strong organisational skills Good oral and written communication skills in English. One of our clients in Germany is looking a Software Development Engineer working in the frame of the MTG Meteosat Third Generation program, the nextgeneration European operational geostationary meteorological satellite system. This is a collaborative EUMETSATESA program a software simulator PDG for generating the measurement and auxiliary data from each major MTG instrument shall be established. The Payload Data Generator PDG is intended to support the EUMETSAT Ground Segment EUM GS development in particular the verification and validation of the Instrument Data Processing Facility IDPF. Beyond that further Software development activities are planned regarding MTG subsystem simulation and ground segment data processing of the postEPS ground segment. Task Descriptions Responsible for the Software Development of Payload Data Generator PDG. In particular you will be in charge of the analysis, coding and testing of algorithms described in textual form, andor by equations and with parameter data lists. Mainly simulating the impact of the overall MTG data acquisition chain encompassing the geometric, radiometric and spectral deformations, but also a few other types of processing like spatial resamplingremapping and data fusion functions which aim at adapting the sampling and map projection of external data to be prepared for the MTG instrument data generation. Integration, Verification, Validation and Qualification of the PDG. Documentation Detailed Design, Test ProceduresReports, User Manual. Being able to use the Payload Data Generator PDG, e.g. for user support and training. Planning, preparation and conduction of the SW development for processing prototypes and operational processors for the postEPS ground software. Support to software development for MTG subsystem simulation. Required Profile Degree in aerospace engineering, space technology, electronic engineering, physics, computer sciences or comparable qualification. Approx. two or more years of experience in the domain. Knowledge of principles of typical Earth Observation instruments and spacecraft. Good image data processing skills. Good level of software development experience with the C and Python languages. Good knowledge of mathematics to be able to understand algorithms advantageous. Excellent conceptual analytical skills. Fluent written and spoken English.
