ANSI Supports Revision of White House OMB Circular A119.

White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) issued revision of OMB Circular A119, "Federal Participation in the Development and Use of Voluntary Consensus Standards and in Conformity Assessment Activities." In February 2014, OMB requested comments on said revision and received broadly supportive response from ANSI. Updates maintain strong preference for using voluntary consensus standards over government-unique standards in Federal regulation and procurement and clarifies guidance.

ANSI welcomed 16 new members in January 2016. These organizations joined a federation that represents more than 125,000 companies and over 3.5 million professionals. Under institute’s umbrella, this diverse constituency works together to strengthen competitiveness of businesses operating in the global marketplace and to improve quality of life for all citizens by developing, implementing, and promulgating voluntary consensus standards and related conformance assessment systems.

IAPMO Group, member and audited designator of ANSI, announced promotions of 2 employees: Duane Huisken as senior vice president of marketing and communications, and Mitchell Morris as senior vice president of information technology. ANSI member and accredited standards developer also announced 2 staff changes; Bill Visnic joined as editorial director for SAE media products, and Lindsay Brooke was promoted to editor-in-chief of Automotive Engineering magazine.

Registration Deadline Approaches for ANSI ISO forum and workshop.

ANSI ISO Forum (AIF) will meet February 17, 2016 at Georgia Institute of Technology facilities in Atlanta. In conjunction with said event, ANSI will host Secretariat Workshop on best management practices for U.S.-held Secretaries of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Committees and their support staff on February 18 at same location. Registration for both events ends on February 1, 2016.

ANSI Supports First World Smart City Forum to be held in July.

International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) launched World Smart City online community to help city stakeholders worldwide make cities smarter. This is part of IEC's lead-up to first World Smart City Forum — partnership between IEC, ISO, and International Telecommunication Union (ITU). ANSI will serve as supporting organization of said forum, which will be held July 13, 2016 in Singapore, and also supports smart cities through ANSI Network on Smart and Sustainable Cities (ANSSC).
