Spacecraft Operations Engineer Mars Exploration Missions Operations

Position Reference 825 We are currently looking for a Spacecraft Operations Engineer to work at our clients premises in the city of Darmstadt, Germany. The key person will be primarily assigned to the Mars Exploration Missions Operations Unit OPSOPX within the Solar System Exploration Missions Division but with the possibility of supporting other missions within this division. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Tests Preparation and Execution Preparation of Standalone Validation of each Ground Segment Elements, additional adhoc support to the system testing preparation. Execution of Data Systems testing and validation upon delivery. Definition and Execution of test procedures during IGST, SVT, DFT and other endtoend testing. FOP Preparation Writing and testing FOP procedures. Mission Phase Definition Mission phase definition, High level and Timeline planning. Mission Phase Execution LEOP, Commissioning, Mars Arrival, Surface operations, etc. Learning and Training, simulation campaigns, inputs to task22 for FOP and MIB updates and validation, Dress rehearsal, launch window variability, LEOP shift pattern, critical real time operations, Coordination with PI and SOC. Operations Supervision Oncall presence troubleshoot problems during pass conduction, Restoring Spacecraft to Nominal Operation, detecting and fixing known anomalies OOLCEL, data gap recovery, Pass reporting, inputs to regular reporting. Execution of recovery actions as decided during Anomaly Management. Tools and FOP Maintenance Maintainupgrade MPS rules, Automation scripts, OBCPs, mission models, etc. Coordinate with other missions to maintain maximum commonality. Maintainmodify FOP procedures, MIB database in response to operations changes. Anomaly Handling Organise MRB, perform investigations determine sequence of events and cause and plan recovery or adaptation of operations. Validation and Deployment of Ground Systems updates Testing, validation of patch deliveries. Management and coordination of internal mission interfaces Daily Operational coordination with Fdyn, ESTRACK, SWS, ICT, Space Debris, station usage planning, Fdyn requirements for Radiometry, data exchange interfaces, etc. Mission Planning Execute the different MP processes LTP, MTP, STP, VSTP, etc. and generate the corresponding products. Aim to maintain a common baseline for the division. OnBoard Software Maintenance Support Service Implementation of OBSW patches Upload, dump, verify. Spacecraft Performance Analysis and Reporting Task 33 Setup of tools and processes for regular generation of spacecraft performance reports and trend analysis. Periodic generation of the corresponding technical reports. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory University degree in a relevant discipline. Spacecraft subsystem knowledge DHOBSMAOCS Power Thermal TTC Payload. Experience in Ground Segment development andor improvement activities in support of flight operations. Experience in activities applicable to spacecraft operations. Ability to coordinate and interact with other service providers in operations and other fields. Fluency in English, both written and spoken. The following skills would be highly desirable Experience in the generation of nominal contingency procedures. Familiarity with satellite control systems, in particular SCOS2000. Familiarity with Onboard SW and OBCP development. Familiarity with operational simulators, especially the ones based on SimSat. Familiarity with deep space missions. Familiarity with MOIS. Experience in testing and validation of ground segment systems. Familiarity with the ESOC environment. Role Description Summary As the Operations Analyst, you will be responsible for taking ownership in resolving longterm and highly visible Customer Service incidents. You will coordinate with commercial, development and technology teams to ensure delivery of best in class customer service. In this role, you will perform upgrades of day to day Operations software needed by all Level 2 to maintain operational efficiency. In addition, you are expected to support the development of operational and system requirements by liaising with multiple departments within SES. The Analyst will also support other projects and activities affecting all areas of operations in order to provide best in class systems and services for SES operational teams. Responsibilities Key Result Areas Coordinate PMOCs efforts in supporting advanced CSD activities, such as HTS operational development and furthering the integration of SatID, Satguard, Sentinel, and other emerging systems into operations Update monitoring plans after reconfigs etc, run ESG cals etc Track and resolve complex technical and operational issues affecting customer transmissions on the SES satellite network including GSM, radar, sweepers, rebroadcast etc Maintain the highest level of operational and technical knowledge of the communications monitoring systems in order to act as a systems expert in supporting 247 operations Ensure that operational tools used by the operations centers are appropriate and effective for their tasks Participate in internal and external customer meetings, and conference calls, to develop strong relationships with key internal, external and industry stake holders. Respond to escalations from Operations teams on any topic affecting customer services Provide support to Operations teams on any escalated issue affecting customer services Competencies Strong aptitude for a systems approach to problem solving, and good analytical skills Innovative mindset and creative approach Ability to communicate well with others, in writing and verbally Strong customer focus demonstrate excellent customer service and interpersonal skills Ability to lead, motivate, and influence others Possess the ability to make timely, informed decisions that consider the facts, goals, and constraints Must be able to support customer training and support of sales when needed Selfmotivation attention to detail and accuracy Thorough knowledge of the HTS satellites Ability to work independently and in a team environment Qualification Experience Must be willing to work in a 247 environment, oncall rotation High level of knowledge of the following tools CSM, Satguard and SatID Minimum of 8 years working experience in technical customer support and servicesystem management Advanced knowledge of Carrier Monitoring and Geolocation systems, RF interference mitigation techniques An electricaltelecommunications BSMS degree, or equivalent qualifications and experience Strong proficiency in software tools and applications, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The primary areas of responsibility is GNC monitoring and control and orbit determination and control for Science Missions, covering tasks in the domains of orbit determination, trajectory optimisation, GNC command generation and GNC telemetry monitoring. The key person may be requested to assume the responsibility and perform activities for additional service, missions and activities within the scope of general Flight Dynamics operations engineering services. The key person will be primarily assigned to a particular service within the Science Missions but with the possibility of supporting other service andor missions. Service to be provided are primarily related to EXOMARS RSP, Juice and Euclid. Services may also be requested related to GAIA, Bepi Colombo, Mars Express, ExoMars TGO, Hera and Solar Orbiter. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Command Generation Execution of and support to operational tasks. Generation of task related command parameters. Generation of task related reports. Mission Planning Support Execution of and support to operational tasks. Generation of mission planning related products, such as schedules and planning input. Attitude and TM monitoring Retrieval of TM of the onboard GNC systems. Decoding and analysis of GNC TM. Sensor and actuator calibrations. Generation of auxiliary data for mission exploitation. Flight Dynamics Application Layer Maintenance of elements of the Flight Dynamics Application Layer. Flight Dynamics System Development Specification of modifications, enhancements and additions to existing software elements. Implementation of modifications, enhancements and additions to existing software elements. Installation of modifications, enhancements and additions to existing software elements on operational platforms design, coordination and implementation of tests. Participation in tests. Setup procedures. Flight Dynamics SubSystem configuration. Coordination of internal and external interfaces and actitivities across subsystems. General Flight Dynamics operations engineering activities. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory University degree in a relevant engineering field, astronomy, mathematics or physics. Very good skills in calculus in one or several variables.. Skills in numerical methods for equations solving, integration of differential equations, function approximation and interpolation, optimisation, linear algebra problems. Very good skills in classical mechanics, including kinematics and dynamics of point masses, dynamics of rigid bodies, dynamics expressed in noninertial frames, conservation laws in mechanics, gravitational forces and field, orbit dynamics, keplerian orbits and Kepler laws. Skills to apply above knowledge to develop solutions to technical problems in cooperation with customers and other experts. Ability to define, implement, validate and operate software which applies the above solutions, using C as main programming language knowledge of UnixLinux, scripting languages and Fortran 77952003 is a valuable asset. Will to take operational responsibility in multidiscipline teams. Coordinate and interact with other service providers in operations and other fields. Ability to work independently. Familiarity with the ESOC environment. Familiarityexperience with Flight Dynamics operations engineering tasks. Experience dealing with external interfaces. Experience with Linux, network services and protocols, and system administration. The ability to multitask efficiently working on multiple activities, multiple subsystems and if applicable multiple missions simultaneously. Fluency in English, both in speech and writing. The following skills would be highly desirable Being familiar with different representations of rotation in 3D, thus including the representation of SC attitude cosine direction matrix, Euler symmetric parameters quaternions, Eulerangles,....
