For our activities in ESTEC, we are currently looking for a Space Operations Engineer. The post holder will report to the head of the Robotics and Future Projects office, in the Directorate of the Human Spaceflight and Operations. Tasks and Responsibilities The duties of this post will include Operations engineering for the European Robotic Arm and Meteron projects and for future projects such as technology demonstrations on ISS Liaise with EAC, GCTC and RSC Energia for instructor and crew training issues, including maintenance of the ERA Astronaut Training Database ATD Software management andor rapid software prototyping for the projects in the office Logistics organisation for ERA integration and launch campaign, Meteron experiments and test campaigns in analogue sites field tests Supporting the development of specific qualification andor ISS flight demonstrations of technology items needed for human exploration Performance of system definition studies for future human exploration developments Ensuring support for the Office and Division in other tasks as required. Meteron Multipurpose End To End Robotics Operations Network Requirements In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in Engineering, the key person shall have Experience in space operations Knowledge of the International Space Station Programme Robotics engineering knowledge System and Software engineering experience Capability to work in a team with other ESA organizations as well as with external partners. Candidates should be rigorous, have good communication skills and be able to transfer technical knowhow in a clear and concise manner. Working for one of our clients based in South Africa in the Cape Town area we are looking for an Engineer familiar with the ESA Production Environment. This engineer can be an Assembler Engineer, Inspector or a Quality Assurance Manager who has worked on projects within the space industry. This position is open to anybody with a suitable background that is from South Africa that is looking for a new contract. The candidate would ideally also need to be familiar with ECSS ESA Standards.

Tasks and Responsibilities The following activities will apply The effect of space environment on spacecraft hardware sublimation, cold welding, atomic oxygen, thermal fatigue, vibration Performing tasks related to metallurgical assessment including metallurgical laboratory evaluations by means of metallography and scanning electron microscopy and the drafting of reports, including the assessment of metallic joining techniques and repair welding, bonding, brazing, etc. Failure analysis using a variety of tools including acoustic microscopy, optical microscopy, confocal microscopy, electron microscopy, XRay and drafting of reports Corrosion and stresscorrosion cracking assessment of structural metallic materials Advanced and conventional metallic alloys particularly steels, aluminium and titanium alloys and nonmetallic materials, particularly CFRP as well as Ceramics Electronic materials and interconnection methods, electronic packaging, printed circuit boards Structural weldments and surface finishing Setting up and monitoring materials related tests, such as mechanical testing including fatigue, corrosion testing, thermal testing Review and Approval of ESA Project Materials, Mechanical Parts and Processes Lists and processing facilities in industry Providing specialist advice to ESA Projects in the field of metallurgy including participation to project meetings, reviews and audits. Experience and education Master university degree or equivalent qualification in metallurgy Minimum of 10 years of practical experience in an aerospace or related industry Experience in the field of the effects of the space environment on metallic materials and a good understanding of physics, Candidates must have proficiency in the English language, a good knowledge of another member state language is seen to be an asset.
