Tasks and Responsibilities The Key Person will take care of the following tasks Support to the implementation of an updated LASCO batch process for ballistic parameter estimation and subsequent orbit prediction of all catalogued objects for reentry warnings in DISCOS Analysis of the implications of a possible replace of LASCO with FOCUS2, or alternatively the usage of FOCUS2 as a branch in LASCO, or Analysis of areas of potential improvement in LASCO Implementation of one of the two options Maintenance of the LASCO software and software documentation Corrective and routine maintenance Customization and installation of the software and of required support tools Organisation of data archival Support to the implementation of an updated DRAMA version Alignment with MASTER2009 Implementation of a new fluxprediction algorithm Implementation of other identified corrections Update of the GUI Graphical User Interface Organization of the production and distribution of DRAMA media CD ROMs Update of the DRAMA software and software documentation Maintenance of the DRAMA software and software documentation Corrective and routine maintenance Customization and installation of the software and of required support tools Organisation of data archival Support the update of ESAs Space Debris Mitigation Handbook Maintenance of the DELTA software and software documentation Corrective and routine maintenance Customization and installation of the software and of required support tools Organisation of data archival Amendment to the software in the following areas Modelling of active removal measures Modelling of nofuturelaunches scenarios Improved automation of Monte Carlo averaging Automated generation of input population from the MASTER format Operation of DELTA for internal and IADC studies Update of the DELTA software and software documentation Installation of the SCARAB 3.1L software on the space debris servers Maintenance of the turnkey SCARAB software system Familiarisation with the software Operation of the software for test cases, modified operational cases and later new cases Retrieval of design information in support of SCARAB CAD input modelling Support as backup to maintain core functions of the DISCOS database and of the IADC Reentry Event Database As one of the last Linux migration steps, the development of Javabased DISCOS webfront end is required. The software engineer SDA shall support this development. Support as backup to conjunction event assessments CRASS and related orbit determinations ODIN Requirements In addition to a Master degree or equivalent, the key person should bring at least 4 years experience in the following fields in particular Coordinate Systems Orbital Mechanics Space Debris Matters Observation, modelling, mitigation Orbit determination aspects Software lifecycles versioning systems and configuration management SQL basic understanding of the hardware PCs, RAID, back up mechanisms HSOGR Application Software DRAMA, MASTER, PROOF, DELTA. Our German activities grow at fast pace and to face our costumers high level expectations and needs, we are looking for talented profiles having relevant experience in Space Surveillance and Tracking Engineering for the European Space Operation Centre in Darmstadt. TASKS The SST engineers shall possess a proven expertise in the field of SST, celestial mechanics, space object observation techniques and related data processing, and need to have demonstrated experience in the testing, integration and validation of large and complex software systems. They must have a good knowledge of software engineering aspects, requirements engineering, as well as documentation skills, and experience with quality assurance. The SST engineers shall have a good expertise of the PCLinux environment, network services and protocols, and webbased frontends. The SST engineers shall be proficient in shell scripting languages, Fortran 77 andor 90, C andor C, Perl, Python and JavaScript. The applicable software requirements including interface and performance requirements shall be elaborated jointly with the staff of the Space Debris Office as part of the support activity. Evolution of the software requirements throughout the support phase shall be accounted for. The use of COTS items in the development requires prior approval by the Agency. Relevant documentation, software engineering, testing and quality requirements applied by the Space Debris Office shall be followed. All Intellectual Property Rights IPR of deliverables software, including but not limited to related documentation, scripts, makefiles, object code, executables developed or altered under this contract shall be andor remain with ESA. All software including scripts, makefiles, object code, executables, provided by the Agency under this contract, shall be checked by the contractor for IPR issues and all necessary actions shall be taken by the contractor to ensure that the full IPR continue to remain with ESA. Acceptance criteria content of technical milestones, exact software requirements and schedule shall be defined jointly with the staff of the Space Debris Office as part of the service delivery, during quarterly meetings. Achievements shall be documented in the monthly reports on the grounds of which the nondevelopment related parts of the service are accepted. Acceptance Testing of software developed by the contractors will be carried out by ESA and will cover verification that the requirements that were specified jointly during the support period for the given software are met reliability checks, via extended duration tests All software including scripts, makefiles, object code, executables and documents used, developed or modified under this contract shall be considered confidential and not be distributed outside the Agency without prior authorisation by the head of the Space Debris Office.
