Job description Responsibilities For Termas longterm customer, the European Southern Observatory ESO, an international astronomical institute based in Garching close to Munich we are currently looking for experienced Software Engineers. The ESO Very Large Telescope VLT is a collection of optical and near Infrared telescopes that can operate independently or combined as an interferometer. Automated processing of telescope data is managed by a suite of data pipeline software. The Software Engineers will support activities at the site to work on tasks such as Development and maintenance of algorithms for automated processing of astronomical data generated by ESOs telescopes. The algorithms are to be implemented in ANSIC programming language, using an existing common library of the standard procedures ESOCPL. Continuous integration and regression test of the algorithm is performed using Jenkins. The final procedures are integrated into an existing suite of scientific workflow software REFLEX. This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date in January 2016. Qualifications Competencies Applicants shall have an university degree, preferably in computer science or other suitable qualification together with some background in data processing. Essential skills are Strong skills developing applications in the ANSIC programming language Experience with the Jenkins continuous software integration tool Strong background in software integration Experience in the development and maintenance phases of software projects fluency in English spoken and written, as English is the working language Desirable skills are Some background in astronomy or alternatively, some experience in a related field, such as image or signal processing Experience with professional software quality assurance provisions Previous experience in a similar consultancy role, i.e., as resident consultant operating onsite within a customer organisation Exposure international and or scientific organization The position requires a great deal of independence and selfmotivation. Tasks and Activities To setup the maintenance of the Data Centre Software applications from ESA. One of our clients in Germany is looking a Software Development Engineer working in the frame of the MTG Meteosat Third Generation program, the nextgeneration European operational geostationary meteorological satellite system. This is a collaborative EUMETSATESA program a software simulator PDG for generating the measurement and auxiliary data from each major MTG instrument shall be established. The Payload Data Generator PDG is intended to support the EUMETSAT Ground Segment EUM GS development in particular the verification and validation of the Instrument Data Processing Facility IDPF. Beyond that further Software development activities are planned regarding MTG subsystem simulation and ground segment data processing of the postEPS ground segment. Task Descriptions Responsible for the Software Development of Payload Data Generator PDG. In particular you will be in charge of the analysis, coding and testing of algorithms described in textual form, andor by equations and with parameter data lists. Mainly simulating the impact of the overall MTG data acquisition chain encompassing the geometric, radiometric and spectral deformations, but also a few other types of processing like spatial resamplingremapping and data fusion functions which aim at adapting the sampling and map projection of external data to be prepared for the MTG instrument data generation. The Challenge We are looking for an experienced software engineer to provide Data Processing System Engineering software support for the activities mainly related to the Sentinel3 Payload Data Processing System PDGS and Framework within the Data Processing Team at EUMETSAT.
