You shall operate all or part of the mission system, which may incorporate parts of the ground segment as well as the space segment, as specified for each mission. The positions could cover prelaunch, launch and postlaunch activities. Typical tasks will be To monitor and control all operational progress, in accordance with the scheduled operations plan, ensuring that safety criteria are respected and that all operations are conducted in accordance with the established procedures To perform specific operations relating to individual missions, as defined in the operations plans, or as instructed by the responsible SOM, SOE or Analyst Immediately inform the responsible personnel when an anomaly is detected, in accordance with the established procedures To take corrective action as necessary, applying the contingency emergency procedures approved for the mission To coordinate with the responsible personnel for any scheduling required To prepare operations reports as requested To assist in the production of printouts, graphs and plots for offline evaluation and analysis To prepare and complete all necessary forms for the daily operations routine. The service is performed in a shift rota to continuously have 24 hours manning team within a regular shift pattern. Your Tasks Include The Key person shall work in the Operations and User Services Department as a member of the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team. The key person shall be assigned and trained to provide operations expertise and support to one or more platform subsystems and or payload instruments, depending on his or her experience and the overall team needs. The key person shall also participate in coordinating the satellite operations activities of other team members and external teams responsible for onboard software management, simulator support, mission control, mission planning, flight dynamics and ground stations. Furthermore, the key person shall support system and operations preparation activities for MetopC, for Metop Second Generation satellites and possibly also for Sentinel3 and Jason CS. The key person shall be required to support operations during normal working hours, as well as support the oncall operations engineer rota, such that safe and efficient operations are ensured by the Spacecraft Operations Team on a 247 basis. The tasks of the Key person will typically include Support to the routine operations of Metop A, B and preparing for MetopC, comprising Provision of operational expertise to one or more platform subsystems andor payload instruments Maintain the corresponding operations documentation and flight procedures, including the update and operational validation of procedures releases in a configuration controlled environment Perform trending and performance analysis on the corresponding subsystems and instruments, including definition and possibly prototyping of additional analysis checks where necessary Investigations into satellite anomalies. This may require a close cooperation with the Operations Support Entity in ESTEC and Industry Participation in the satellite oncall support rota Identification and support to implementation of system and process improvements concerning the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team responsibilities and interfaces. Support to the system and operations preparation of Metop Second Generation satellites Provide inputs and or review the definition of system and satellite operational concepts Review space to ground interface specifications and flight operations manuals Support the definition of tools and processes required to prepare for and operate the satellites. Support to the system and operations preparation of other LEO satellites Provide operations preparation support as required to the Sentinel3 and Jason CS developments. Your Profile In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Key person shall have a demonstrated experience in one or more of the following Spacecraft monitor and control operations Spacecraft operations preparation engineering Low Earth Orbit spacecraft design or Assembly Integration and Test activities at system or subsystem level. Furthermore, it would be a distinct advantage for the Key person to have experience with some of the following Inorbit operations of Low Earth Orbit Earth Observation satellites Experience in the operation or development of satellite ground segment facilities, in particular procedure development, monitor and control, mission planning, onboard software management, performance analysis, configuration management and simulator facilities. Specification of system and operational concepts, facility requirements Familiarity with system change control and configuration management procedures. Data analysis software packages such as MATLAB. File parsing languages such as PERL, AWK. Use of VBA for development of adhoc tools in MS Office applications. The candidate should be selfmotivated and able to work in an organised and efficient manner with minimum supervision. Strong data analysis, processing and synthesis skills are essential and an ability to recognise opportunities for improvements in areas of work and implement appropriate solutions is highly desirable.
