For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for 2 Spacecraft Controllers. Tasks and Responsibilities Operate on a 247 shift basis all or part of the mission control system, which includes parts of the ground segment as well as the space segment Assist in configuring and testing the operational system to support the operations In case of ground or space segment anomaly take corrective action as necessary, applying the contingencyemergency procedures approved for the mission to ensure spacecraft safety and the continuity of service provision to users Participate in other operationsrelated activities small system development, procedures development or maintenance etc upon request of the Team Leader. Requirements Candidates should have a solid background in a technical or electronic environment, to the level of Senior Technician. A formal qualification to ONC or HNC would be advantageous. Ex service personnel should have completed a service College apprenticeship in electronicstelecommunications, and possess a background in Avionics, Air Defence, Air Radar or Communications. Alternatively the position is also open for graduates with a qualification in a related subject such as Aerospace Engineering, Satellite Communications, Telecommunications, Physics etc. Experience working with computer systems and PC literacy is required. Database knowledge would be useful. Candidates must be adaptable, selfdisciplined and able to work in a calm and correct manner under conditions of stress. The position requires working a shift rota candidates must be able to fit in well within a small operations team. Russia now has an inspector satellite that could chase down or destroy other orbiting spacecraft

According to Earth's dedicated team of satellite observers, Russia is developing a satellite that can chase down other satellites. Obviously, such an ability could be used for the forces of good, such as repairing or refueling other spacecraft -- but the rest of the world is worried that Russia might be looking to blow up other satellites, or to get close enough that it can take photos of classified designs or eavesdrop on communications.

NASA signs off on Mars-bound Orion spacecraft: All systems go for December test flight

NASA has announced that it has finished construction of the first Orion spacecraft. Orion, which is scheduled to take its first test flight aboard a Delta IV rocket on December 4, will be the first spacecraft to have the capability to take humans into deep space beyond the Moon, to land on asteroids, Mars, and who knows what else.
