JOB DESCRIPTION Responsibilities Duties Tasks The applicable spacecraft subsystems are Sentinel 1 o AOCS. o DataHandling, S and Xband. o PDHT and TTC. o Power, Thermal, and SAR. o OCP, SAR and Platform. Sentinel 2 o AOCS and OCP. o DataHandling. o Power and Instruments. o PDHU, S and Xband. o Thermal and AOCS. The Spacecraft Operations Engineer SOE is responsible For the support to the Sentinels missions as a member of the Flight Control Teams FCT during all the operational phases, including special operations i.e. LEOP, Commissioning, deorbiting, etc. For the participation to testing campaigns Simulations, SVT, GSV, inflight tests of the above mentioned missions. The SOE position within the Sentinels missions includes the following responsibilities Validation, test and operation of the MCS, including the OBSM and Mission Planning System. Validation, test and operation of the Simulator. Generation, validation and maintenance of the FOP of the applicable satellite subsystem. Support to test and operation of the NDIUs, PSS and other operational support tools. Support for FOS procurement, integration, user acceptance testing and system testing. Review of satellite documents. Maintenance of the FOS spacecraft document library. Support for the generation of FOS documentation, i.e. requirements, ICDs, test plansreports etc. Support to FCT training activities including generation of training material. Support to spacecraft and ground segment AR resolution. Support to the preparation and execution of the Satellite Validation Test SVT campaign. LEOP support responsible for the applicable satellite subsystem. Commissioning support for the applicable satellite subsystem. Routine Phase operational support including o Responsible for applicable satellite subsystems. o The performance of Mission Planning operations. o The preparation and execution of orbit control manoeuvres and any other daily and weekly operations activities. o Support to the oncall SOE rota, maintaining the mission history log and the generation of regular operations reports. o Support to Secure commanding operations. In addition, this SOE will be responsible for Activities related to the applicable subsystem including o Spacecraft Simulator validation and testing. o Mission Control System acceptance and testing. o Mission planning definition, validation and testing. o Support to the definition of the necessary ICDs. o Support to the development, validation and deployment of mission specific support tools. o Support to Spacecraft System FDIR operations. Qualifications A good background in a scientific or technical discipline is necessary. Required knowledge Spacecraft Flight Operations knowledge, including FDIR, in particular for the relevant spacecraft subsystems andor payloads. Experience with Packet Utilisation Standard. Experience in working in an operational environment. Experience with flight procedures lifecycle, including validation. Experience with anomaly investigations. Ability to understand and accurately predict behaviour of complex systems. Experience with low Earth orbit satellites operations, including experience in preparatory phase OPSPREP, special operations LEOP, Deorbiting campaign and operational phase routine. Ability to work independently and with little supervision. Wellorganised, able to prioritise and manage several activities in parallel. Capable of coordinate and interact with other service providers in operations and other fields. Fluency in English, both in speech and writing. Familiarity with operational simulators, ideally SimSat. Familiarity with satellite control systems, ideally SCOS2000. Familiarity with Earth Observations missions, in particular with Copernicus Sentinels. Familiarity with TMTC databases, preferably SCOS2000 compatible. Familiarity with multisatellite missions. Experience in ground tests preparation and execution, e.g. SVTs. Experience in cooperation with Flight Dynamics teams. Experience in preparing and executing OnBoard Software operations. Experience in mission planning operations. Experience with ground segment integration and validation. Experience in coordinating the LEOP timeline of operations. Familiarity with Network Distribution and Interface Units or similar EGSE equipment. Familiarity with MUST. Familiarity with ESOC working environment and Quality Management System QMS. SES provides satellite operations expertise to the O3b constellation through a Service Level Agreement. The ADCS Propulsion Engineer is responsible for the inorbit operations and performance monitoring of the ADCS and Propulsion subsystems of the O3b satellite constellation. The position will support both the SES Engineering team in Luxembourg and the O3b operations team in Manassas USA. Experience Qualifications A Masters Degree in Engineering, with a specialization that includes dynamics and control is mandatory Have at least 2 years of experience in satellite engineering and operations. Operational experience with LEO or MEO constellations would be considered an advantage Have strong analytical and problemsolving skills Have strong computer software skills with knowledge of at least one programming language. Proficiency with MATLAB would be considered an advantage Fluency in English, with strong communication skills, both written and oral. Spacecraft Simulator Development, Test and Validation Engineer mf The Mission Our customer, ESA, develops ground software data systems for supporting the spacecraft mission operations at its operations center, ESOC, in Darmstadt, Germany. ESOC requires qualified software development, test and validation engineers to support the procurement, rollout and use of operational spacecraft simulators and related spacecraft mission data systems. Such engineers support ESA staff in the process of developing and maintaining the operational systems in use, for example by supporting the definition the specifications, supporting formal validation of developed systems, and assisting end users, such as spacecraft operators, in utilizing the systems. The Challenge We are looking for a software engineer to support ESA staff with the definition, implementation, acceptance and maintenance of operational spacecraft simulators and other ground software systems used for spacecraft operations. The systems involved are Operational Spacecraft Simulators Spacecraft Mission Control Systems and their related subsystems Mission Planning Systems Mission Automation Data Security Spacecraft Database System The main tasks and responsibilities involved are Specification of the software requirements of these systems such as operational spacecraft simulators in collaboration with the operational users Definition and specification of their internal and external interfaces in agreement with the relevant parties Formal acceptance of the deliverables received from industry, ensuring correctness, completeness and compliance to the specifications Support to the spacecraft mission operations staff as required in the various operational phases, including System Validation Tests, simulation campaigns and in software support coordination as part of the Flight Control Team during critical operational phases such as launches Coordination with other internal ESOC or external units, e.g. with the unit supplying spacecraft mission data systems infrastructure and with the unit supplying the IT systems and services Participation in research and development activities in the area of mission data systems This is a full time position, located at the customers site, ESOC in Darmstadt.
