Main responsibilities The tasks will be the following Operate on a 247 shift basis all or part of the mission control system, which includes parts of the ground segment as well as the space segment Assist in configuring and testing the operational system to support the operations In case of ground or space segment anomaly take corrective action as necessary, applying the contingency emergency procedures approved for the mission to ensure spacecraft safety and the continuity of service provision to users Participate in other operationsrelated activities small system development, procedures development or maintenance etc. upon request of the Team Leader. Ideal candidate The candidates should have a solid background in a technical or electronic environment, to the level of Senior Technician. A formal qualification to ONC or HNC would be advantageous. Ex service personnel should have completed a service College apprenticeship in electronics telecommunications, and possess a background in Avionics, Air Defence, Air Radar or Communications. Or the candidate should have a degree at least at BSc level in a related subject such as Aerospace Engineering, Telecommunications, Physics etc. Experience working with computer systems and PC literacy is required. Database knowledge would be useful. Candidates must be adaptable, selfdisciplined and able to work in a calm and correct manner under conditions of stress. Airbus GroupA vacancy for a Telecommunication SatellitesSpacecraft Thermal Product Manager has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Stevenage.The objective of the role is to manage and develop a set of thermal products that will enable the internal thermal control of a satellite or spacecraft to within 5C, while the external environment is driving temperatures between 150C and 150C. The technological approach is further challenged due to the lack of convection and limited conduction while the satellite is surrounded by deep space at a radiation sink temperature close to absolute zero. You will lead a team of thermal specialists to ensure coherence and continual development of advanced thermal products aligned with and in cooperation with other satellite systems specialists. Once developed you are accountable for continued successful application of the product within the projects environment through to inspace performance. You would join the satellite platform team at a time when Airbus Defence and Space is advancing a new geostationary satellite development programme together with various smaller spacecraft development programmes that are demanding new ways of approaching the problems of thermal control in space.The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs.Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Overall responsibility for the thermal development, justification and maintenance activities including design, strategy, product segmentation, evolution road maps, funding sources, alignment with satellite product objectives and evolving payload capability. Management and coordination of Product Strategy and Definition, Product Development and Improvements, Product Implementation within internal projects and external customers. Maintaining a good overviewnetwork of all relevant European SMEs to ensure active developments in support of the next generation of products. Actively access funding streams such as ARTES in support of development and platform activities. Monitor, support and sponsored applied research development programmes.This role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Engineering degree or equivalent. Product or Project Management experience. Thermal Engineering experience with exposure to both Architectural and detailed Design aspects. Experience in Heat Pipes would be a benefit, but is not essential for the role. Good industrial awareness required in order to appropriately balance technical, cost and schedule aspects of product development and upgrades. Able to express thoughts clearly and exchange them with other architects and engineers. An experienced Systems Engineer is required for a full time position to work for one of the UKs most innovative young companies, a World leader in electronic systems for small and miniature satellites. The company is looking to expand its engineering team to meet rapidly growing customer demand for our products as this exciting market expands. We are looking to recruit a Systems Engineer who can work within our Operations team to deliver Spacecraft Platform system solutions. Responsibilities will include Nanosatellite spacecraft platform requirement and architecture definition, and system design. Working with the integrated team to ensure that the design and performance of the platform meets its specified requirements, including software, subsystem and unit performances. Monitoring and ensuring that the Spacecraft interfaces are consistent with the Payload, System and quality aspects expected. Design and delivery of relevant operational requirements to control and operate the Spacecraft systems. Analysis and predictionmodellingsimulation of performance parameters on the platform and monitoring these throughout the project phases, ensuring they meet the top level system design requirements, and customer expectations. Supporting platform and lowerlevel reviews, as well as supporting spacecraft level reviews and any nonconformance reviews. Skills required Minimum BEng or BSc Engineering subject, Physics, Maths, or suitable experience in lieu. Previous experience of developing aerospace products through the full Systems Engineering lifecycle, from Concept of Operations to customer acceptance. Knowledge and experience of Software and Hardware development processes, project scheduling, team and task management. Demonstrable experience in the design and management of at least two of the following and an understanding of the others o Networking Communications o Near RealTime Data Processing, dissemination and on board data archiving o Attitude sensing and control o RF systems o EO and M2M systems o Power generation and control systems o Ground control systems Working knowledge of standard systems engineering processes and standards, e.g. ECSS, INCOSE, and experience of tailoring to meet the business and customer requirements. Able to perform effectively under high workloads and be able to adapt to a rapidlychanging timecritical environment. Able to commit to the plan and deliver the expected results on time, or to report proactively if any deviations are foreseen. Work in teams and good interpersonal skills to coordinate with team leaders and key stakeholders as well as in cooperation with industry and partner agencies. Ability to write technical documentation and training material for end users or other team members. Skills Desirable Previous experience in a Space Engineering environment. Experience in Integration, Verification and Validation of Data Processing, Ground Segment and Spacecraft communications with particular emphasis on LEO applications. Experience in Spacecraft RF Systems Engineering or an aptitude to learn. MATLAB and SolidWorks CAD modelling experience.
