LEO Spacecraft Operations Engineer

For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for two LEO Spacecraft Operations Engineers. Main responsibilities Tasks and Responsibilities You will work in the Operations and Services to Users Department as a member of the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team, where depending on the level of experience, skills and overall team needs, responsibility will be taken for the operations of in orbit subsystems and or instruments, as well as for the operations preparation and operational conduct of in orbit verification for those subsystems and instruments on the MetopC satellite. Furthermore, this may also include support to the onboard software management, simulator configuration, automation of routine analysis or other activities included within the scope of activities of the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team. You should establish effective working interfaces with the satellite operations activities of other operations engineers and analysts, and external teams responsible for mission control, mission planning, flight dynamics and ground stations. Furthermore, you will support system and operations preparation activities for Metop Second Generation satellites and possibly also for JasonCS Sentinel6. You will support operations during normal working hours, as well as supporting the oncall operations engineer rota, such that safe and efficient operations are ensured by the Spacecraft Operations Team on a 247 basis. Your tasks will typically include Support to the routine operations of Metop A, B Provision of operational expertise to platform subsystems andor payload instruments and or onboard software management, satellite simulator and ground segment operations interfaces Maintain the corresponding operations documentation and flight procedures, including the update and operational validation of procedures releases in a configuration controlled environment Perform trending and performance analysis on the corresponding subsystems and instruments, including definition of additional automated analysis and checks where necessary Investigations into satellite anomalies. This may require a close cooperation with the Operations Support Entity in ESA and Industry Support the coordination of partner agency interactions for relevant subsystemsinstruments Participation in the satellite oncall support rota Identification and support to implementation of system and process improvements concerning the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team responsibilities and interfaces Support the definition and eventual execution of MetopA inorbit technology testing and endoflife operations. Support to the operations preparation and early operations of MetopC Update, verify and validate the subsystem or instrument procedures and associated operational documentation for MetopC, including support to Satellite System Validation Tests and other Ground Segment Validation Testing Participate in MetopC Satellite InOrbit Verification Testing. Support to the system and operations preparation of Metop Second Generation satellites Provide inputs and or review the definition of system and satellite operational concepts Review space to ground interface specifications and flight operations manuals Support the definition of tools and processes required to prepare for and operate the satellites. Support to the system and operations preparation of other LEO satellites Provide operations preparation support as required to the JasonCS Sentinel6 development. Ideal candidate Requirements Essentials In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, you should have demonstrated experience in at least two of the following mandatory skills Spacecraft monitor and control operations Spacecraft operations preparation engineering Low Earth Orbit spacecraft design or Assembly Integration and Test activities at system or subsystem level. You should be selfmotivated and able to work in an organised and efficient manner with minimum supervision. Strong data analysis, processing and synthesis skills are essential and an ability to recognise opportunities for improvements in areas of work and implement appropriate solutions is highly desirable. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore you must be able to work effectively in this language and have a knowledge of the other. Good communication skills would be also an advantage. Desirables Furthermore, it would be a distinct advantage to have the following experience and skills Inorbit operations of Low Earth Orbit Earth Observation satellites Experience in the operation or development of satellite ground segment facilities, in particular procedure development, monitor and control, mission planning, onboard software management, performance analysis, configuration management and simulator facilities The procedure development tool MOIS and the procedure execution language STOL The mission control systems EPOCH or SCOS Specification of system and operational concepts, facility requirements Familiarity with OnBoard Control Procedure and OnBoard Position Scheduler concepts Familiarity with the ECSS Packet Utilisation Standard, customisation and usage Familiarity with system change control and configuration management procedures Any programming skills in particular Python is used to support automated routine telemetry analysis. The Product Assurance Engineer will be part of the SES Resident Field Office located at the OHB facility in Bremen, Germany. The SES Field Offices are established at the manufacturer facilities to oversee all programme activities until the satellite is launched to ensure on quality, on cost and on schedule satellites that meet SES Customers needs. The Product Assurance Engineer is responsible for the quality standard of parts, materials and processes applied into the construction of the ELECTRA satellite. The Product Assurance Engineer shall ensure the contractual Product Assurance Plan is effectively and timely implemented for the ELECTRA programme, meeting contractual performance requirements, and maintaining SES reputation for technical excellence and delivery. The ELECTRA programme has two major phases and each phase will last approximately 36 months.
