Software snag silences Science Guys solar sail spacecraft

The new solar sail demonstration vehicle, LightSail-A, has lost communication with Earth due to a software glitch. Engineers have not been able to reset the device, but are hoping a cosmic ray will hit the craft, rebooting the electronics.

Spacecraft Systems Engineer Key Tasks and Responsibilities As part of ESAs Concurrent Design Facility Team, you will provide support to the Galileo Space Segment System team reporting to the Galileo FOC Satellite System Manager regarding Satellite Qualification and Acceptance, from contract kickoff to launch in the following areas Technical coherency of the satellite system design, including system level budgets, system performance analysis Satellite System tradeoffs in design phase based on subsystem inputs Satellites acceptance campaign and more specifically system tests Satellite qualificationacceptance test matrix and test flow execution Technical discussion raised through design and acceptance reviews such as PDR, CDR, QAR, AR. Timely implementation of fix from inorbit shortcoming. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience Good knowledge and several years proven experience in spacecraft systems in all project phases as well as in mission design and analysis Demonstrated capabilities to work in space projects with complex technical and industrial interfaces Applicants must be eligible to obtain security clearance by their national security administration being already in possession of security clearance will be considered an asset for the selection Fluency in English is mandatory knowledge of another European language is an advantage.
