It employs some 40,000 employees generating revenues of approximately 14 billion per year. A vacancy for a Spacecraft Mechanisms Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence Space Limited in Stevenage. You will be responsible for detailed design, development and verification activities under limited supervision of high reliability, complex space mechanisms for both telecoms spacecraft and science missions You will work closely with senior team members to continue development of knowledge of space mechanism design and verification Some delegation and supervision of junior engineers. The successful candidate will be subject to security clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Understanding and working to a detailed technical specification. Under limited supervision, perform mechanisms related design, analyses and tradeoffs. Interfacing with specialist analytical departments stress, thermal, radiation, electrical, etc. and taking responsibility to ensure the final analyses provide an integrated story for the complete mechanism design Interfacing with functional test departments stress, thermal, radiation, electrical, manufacturing, test, etc. and taking responsibility to ensure the test process satisfies stringent Airbus DS test philosophies. Preparation of reports for management, project and department. Carry out tradeoffs and preliminary concept designs for early phase science studies. Develop and maintain excellent customer working relationships. Assist in preparation of technical elements for bids and proposals. Support other Airbus Defence and Space departments on studies e.g. ENS and ESA Phase A studies. Support existing projects within Airbus Defence and Space in a Mechanisms Expert role, when required. Authoring of clear and concise technical reports and processes, demonstrating a clear understanding of mechanism design, manufacture and test. Contribute to work packages to ensure tasksactivities are completed on time, on cost and on quality. Support the project responsible engineer during development, qualification and acceptance verification and validation. Work closely with the project manager to ensure schedule and budgets are closely adhered to. This role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering with experience in the SpaceAerospaceAutomotive industry would be appreciated. A first experience working with Complex, high reliability Mechanisms. A sound working knowledge of Motors, Gearboxes, Tribology and understanding the selection of Materials for harsh environments. Ability to do hand calculations for stress and thermal. Space experience desirable but other similar disciplines will be considered. Experience with the specification and procurement of precision components piece part and COTS. Basic electrical knowledge, particularly working with Ohms Law. Experience of environmental and functional testing. Hands on design experience of 3D CAD tools and other engineering tools. Excellent presentation and communication skills. Fluency in English. We require staff, wishing to join our team to work in a dynamic international environment for the following position Spacecraft Operations Engineer mf Tasks and Responsibilities The work will be performed at the European Space Operations Centre ESOC in Darmstadt, Germany. This position, generally referred to as a Spacecraft Operations Engineer SOE, is responsible for the support to the Sentinels missions as a member of the Flight Control Team FCT during the operational phases, including special operations, and will also participate in test campaigns. The position will include the following tasks and responsibilities Act as Expert Operations Engineer providing support to the platform andor Instruments. Validation, test and operation of the Simulator and of the Mission Control System MCS including the OnBoard Software Maintenance OBSM and Mission Planning System. Generation, validation and maintenance of the Flight Operations Plan FOP. Support to test and operate the Network Data Interface Unit NDIU. Support for Flight Operations System FOS procurement, integration and tests. Review of satellite documents. Launch and Early Orbit Phase LEOP support General Operational Support. Commissioning support General Operational Support. The tasks to be performed require considerable initiative, flexibility and independence in executing the assigned tasks. Qualifications and Experience Applicants should have as a minimum a Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline and minimum 3 years of experience in Operations Engineering activities. The following qualifications and experience are required Demonstrate experience with low Earth Orbit Satellites Operations, including experience in preparatory phase OPSPREP, special operations LEOP, deorbiting campaign and operational phase routine either in Platforms and Instruments. Familiarity with satellite control systems, ideally SCOS2000, including data dissemination subsystems like EDDS and Mission Utility Support Tools MUST. Experience in working in an operational environment. Experience with flight procedures life cycle, including validation. Experience with anomaly investigations. Ability to understand and accurately predict behaviour of complex systems. The ability to work independently with little supervision. Wellorganised, able to prioritise and manage several activities in parallel. Capable to coordinate and Interact with other service providers in operations and other fields. Fluent in English verbally and written. Familiarity with operational simulators, ideally SimSat. Familiarity with TMTC databases, preferably SCOS2000 compatible.
