Spacecraft Image Data Processing System and Framework Software Engineer mf Ref. 158898 The Mission Our customer, EUMETSAT, will be managing the routine mission operations of the Sentinel3 low Earth orbiting spacecraft for the European Copernicus programme. The first Sentinel3 spacecraft is scheduled for launch in September 2015. The aims of the Sentinel3 mission include measurement of seasurface topography, see and landsurface temperature, and ocean and landsurface colour in support of ocean forecasting and environmental monitoring. The Challenge We are looking for an experienced software engineer to provide Data Processing System Engineering software support for the activities mainly related to the Sentinel3 Payload Data Processing System PDGS and Framework within the Data Processing Team at EUMETSAT. Tasksresponsibilities will include support the Sentinel3 Operations with respect to EUMETSATs Marine PDGS maintenance in particular anomaly correction and software release process coordination of the data processing systems engineering for the related interfaces with the rest of the Sentinel3 ground segment preparing and providing the support of the daytoday operation and maintenance currently in the preparation phase analysis and testing of the facilities which also includes the handling of anomalies, design of upgrades and configuration changes for these facilities Integration of the individual software facilities into a data processing system, covering all aspects of system integration and testing, including endtoend testing of the production system setting up and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures the coordination with external providers of maintenance services participation in the specification and development of specific monitoring tools for Sentinel3 provide on call support as part of a team of maintenance engineers, especially for the Sentinel3 commissioning and initial operations phases This is a full time position, located at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, and starting in June or July 2015. We are looking for Spacecraft Operations Analysts SOE to be part of the flight control teams performing spacecraft operations in Germany. The tasks to be performed are those typical for a spacecraft operations analyst to configure the mission operational tools to support the operations, which includes Set up of spacecraft and operational data bases. Implement tools needed to manipulate the databases as required. Updating the databases and performing maintenance of the databases applying strict configuration control procedures. Conversion of industry provided databases into formats needed by the satellite mission control system and operational tools. Applying configuration control procedures for documentation in use for all operational tasks and duties under his supervision. Imposition of the procedures. Preparation of database documentation. Supervision of routine operations and any others authorised by the Spacecraft Operations Manager, following established rules and procedures. In case of a ground or space segment anomaly, provide first level contingency recovery support. Introduction and maintenance of appropriate working practices and procedures for routine and anomaly reporting, data analysis, recording and maintenance of system status, recording of operational activities. Support system maintenance activities. Maintenance of a set of reference operational documentation and ensure operational changes are applied. Analysis of system problems by collection and evaluation of appropriate data sets using the reporting and analysis tools available. Collect information data regarding the execution of the mission and provide inputs for the various mission reports. Support data archiving and mission run down activities. The Spacecraft Analyst tasks include responsibility for the organisation, training and operational readiness of the Spacecraft Controllers assigned to each of the missions being supported. The operations are conducted according to established rules and procedures. As an analyst you will be required to familiarise yourself with the procedures and tools that are needed to perform the routine spacecraft control operations. You will take part in test campaigns and simulations, and if necessary arrange for the participation of the spacecraft controllers. You will conduct regular operational readiness training and simulations with controllers proficiency training. The tasks to be performed require considerable initiative, flexibility and independence in executing the assigned tasks. These are full time positions, located in Germany. Working time is normal office hours with occasional extended hours during critical operations periods. Qualifications This position requires an appropriate education and a good background in a technical or scientific discipline, to the level equivalent to Senior Technician. Essential skills are Experience in working in an operational environment. Good experience with office automation tools, including MSEXCEL and MSACCESS use of functions, queries, macros, reports, input forms, etc.. Fluent written and spoken English. Ability to organise, coordinate and train a Spacecraft Controller team. Familiarity with operational training. Familiarity with satellite control systems, ideally SCOS2000. Desirable skills are Familiarity with programmingscripting languages e.g. C, Java, JavaScript. Familiarity with the ESOC working environment and Quality Management System QMS. Knowledge of satellite or ground operations, or nonspace operational environments. Experience with mission planning systems. Experience of reporting on operational systems.
