Job description For a customer in the UK, we are seeking experienced Spacecraft Flight Software Developers for the ExoMars Rover Vehicle. The ExoMars Rover is planned to be launched in 2018 and will carry a comprehensive suite of instruments dedicated to exobiology and geological research. The nominal mission duration is 218 Martian sols. To achieve this a sophisticated suite of onboard software has to be developed and undergo a very comprehensive integration, test and verification program. Responsibilities As a part of the flight software development team, you will be located at the customer premises. The primary responsibilities will be the integration and validation of the flight software. This will include producing test specifications, test procedures and the running of those tests. The work will also include the analysis, debugging and correction of any problems identified. Qualifications Competencies Applicants shall have a university degree, in a relevant discipline or other suitable qualification. Experience essential Experience in development of embedded real time software Experience with software engineering standards for mission critical software Fluency in English, both in speech and writing Able to carry on activities and interact in a complex teamwork environment Able to work independently The ability to multitask efficiently working on multiple activities The following skills and experience are not mandatory but would be considered highly desirable. Knowledge of ESA ECSS Software Standards Spacecraft Flight Software Development Experience Experience with the following software tools Cygwin, Vi, emacs, make, Doxygen, Logiscope Audit, Logiscope Rulechecker, gcc, linecounter Experience with flight software validation facilities Experience with flight software processor emulators In view of the complex interaction with numerous entities, candidates should have good communication skills and the capability to work in a complex environment with complex task. A vacancy for a Telecommunication Satellites and Spacecraft, Propulsion Systems, Product Manager has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Stevenage. The mission manage and develop a set of propulsion systems and products that will enable the transfer of either 100 kg spacecraft or 7000 kg satellites to an altitude of up to 35,786 km. Then control the vehicle attitude for up to 15 years full reliability required with no servicing! The product management approach is a further challenge due to the ongoing rapid advances in this technology domain and imminent changes in launcher capability vs satellitespacecraft need. You will lead a team of propulsion specialists to ensure coherence and continual development of advanced propulsion systems and products, aligned with and in cooperation with other satellite system specialists. Once developed you are accountable for continued successful application of the propulsion systems and products within a projects environment through to inspace performance. You would join the satellite platform team at a time when Airbus Defence and Space is advancing a new geostationary satellite development programme together with various smaller spacecraft development programmes that are demanding new ways of approaching the problems associated with both access to space and inspace propulsion. The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Overall responsibility for the propulsion development, justification and maintenance activities including design, strategy, product segmentation, evolution road maps, funding sources, alignment with satellite product objectives and evolving payload capability. Management and coordination of a Product Strategy and Definition b Product Development and Improvements c Product Implementation within internal projects and external customers Maintaining a good overviewnetwork of all relevant SMEsUniversities to ensure active developments in support of the next generation of products. Actively access funding streams such as ARTES in support of development and platform activities. Monitor, support and sponsored applied research development programmes. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Extensive Project and Product experience in the Propulsion Engineering discipline with experience in both Architectural and detailed design aspects. Good industrial awareness required in order to appropriately balance technical, cost and schedule aspects of product development and upgrades. Demonstrate a capacity for leadership, networking and strategic thinking. Able to express thoughts clearly and exchange them with other architects and engineers. A vacancy for a Senior Spacecraft Mechanisms Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence Space Limited in Stevenage. You will be responsible for detailed design, development and verification activities under limited supervision of high reliability, complex space mechanisms for both telecoms spacecraft and science missions You will work closely with senior team members to continue development of knowledge of space mechanism design and verification Some delegation and supervision of junior engineers Mentoring and knowledge transfer to less experienced and junior members of the team. The successful candidate will be subject to security clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Understanding and working to a detailed technical specification. Under limited supervision, perform mechanisms related design, analyses and tradeoffs. Preparation of reports for management, project and department. Carry out tradeoffs and preliminary concept designs for early phase science studies. Develop and maintain excellent customer working relationships. Assist in preparation of technical elements for bids and proposals. Support other Airbus Defence and Space departments on studies e.g. ENS and ESA Phase A studies. Support existing projects within Airbus Defence and Space in a Mechanisms Expert role, when required. Authoring of clear and concise technical reports and processes, demonstrating a clear understanding of mechanism design, manufacture and test. Contribute to work packages to ensure tasksactivities are completed on time, on cost and on quality. Support the project responsible engineer RE during development, qualification and acceptance verification and validation. Work closely with the project manager to ensure schedule and budgets are closely adhered to. This role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering with experience in the SpaceAerospace or AutomotiveF1 industry would be appreciated. Proven experience working with Complex, high reliability Mechanisms. A sound working knowledge of Motors, Gearboxes, Tribology and understanding the selection of Materials for harsh environments. Ability to do hand calculations for stress and thermal. Basic electrical knowledge, particularly working with Ohms Law. Experience of environmental and functional testing. Hands on design experience of 3D CAD tools and other engineering tools. Excellent presentation and communication skills. Fluency in English.
