A vacancy for a Pre Post Major Spacecraft Component Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Portsmouth. As successful applicant you will lead this key area of advanced telecommunications payloads. The role involves overseeing payload IP ACTIVE EQUIPMENT activities across all active projects including specification, problem resolution, validation and in orbit anomaly followup. The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Generation of standard specifications. Approving project specific specifications in conjunction with the project payload engineering manager and validation engineer. Acting as technical focal point with input section element suppliers, with a view to creating development plans, resolving technical problems and ensuring design to cost and schedule. Ensuring closure on all technical problems and that lessons learned are implemented across all ongoing and future projects. Preparingpresenting technical presentations on input section aspects in front of end customers as required. Attending and presenting at project design reviews, as necessary. Devising and implementing metrics associated with improvements. Attending supplier evaluation reviews and making recommendations regarding preferred candidates in terms of design, performance, risk, product policy and design to cost requirements. An exciting and challenging opportunity is now available for a Spacecraft Operations Engineer to join EUMETSAT, as a staff member, working on the Sentinel3 programme. Reporting to the Spacecraft Operations Manager, the successful candidate will have direct responsibilities for inorbit activities on the first satellite in the series and will take a lead in preparatory activities for the future planned satellites. Whilst the primary aspect of the role is spacecraft operations engineering, the successful candidate will also have delegated supervisory responsibilities in charge of coordination and training activities across a team of consultant engineers. Candidates shall have some relevant industry background and ideally shall have experience in similar Low Earth Orbit programmes. Relevant experience may include satellite or instrument development, platform multiinstrument payload support or ground system operations. Applicants shall have the ability to plan and implement activities, prioritising according to constraints and to do so effectively in the English language. Tasks and Responsibilities This position may include the following tasks Operate on a 247 shift basis all or part of the mission control system, which may include parts of the ground segment as well as the space segment, as specified for each mission Depending on the mission assignment, during the prelaunch phase assist in configuring and testing the operational system to support the operations. Sentinel3 Spacecraft Operations Engineer

Tasks The key person shall be integrated into the Sentinel3 Spacecraft Operations Team. The key person shall be primarily assigned to Satellite 3 system operations preparation and support to 3A routine when handed over from ESOC to EUMETSAT, covering all satellite and system FOSPDGS components aspects related to operations engineering for the platform, payload and instrument data handling, instrument parameter and OBSW maintenance, as well as FDIR and OPS security aspects for the management of encryption and authentication functions. The key person shall also participate in coordinating the satellite operations activities of other team members and external teams responsible for onboard software management, simulator support, mission control, mission planning, flight dynamics and ground stations. Furthermore, the key person shall support system and operations preparation activities for Sentinel3B and for the recurrent mission with respect to their related activities. The tasks of the Key person will typically include Support to the commissioning and routine operations of Sentinel 3A, and preparing for Sentinel3B comprising Provision of operational expertise to their relevant system in particular, with support to other platform subsystems andor payload instruments andor onboard software management, satellite simulator and ground segment operations interfaces Maintain the corresponding operations documentation and flight procedures, including the update and operational validation of procedures releases in a configuration controlled environment Perform trending and performance analysis on the corresponding subsystems and instruments, including definition and possibly prototyping of additional analysis checks where necessary Investigations into satellite anomalies. This may require a close cooperation with the Post launch Support Office PLSO in ESTEC and space industry Support the coordination of partner agency interactions for relevant subsystemsinstruments Participation in the satellite oncall support rota Identification and support to implementation of system and process improvements concerning the Spacecraft Operations Team responsibilities and interfaces. Essential requirements In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the key person shall have a demonstrated experience in at least two of the following mandatory skills Experience of at least 5 years of Spacecraft Operations on Low Earth Orbit LEO, 3 axis stabilised spacecraft with responsibility for one or more platform subsystems or instruments during operational validation, commissioning or routine operations phases Experience of at least 3 years of SCOS2000 mission control system and use of the MOIS operations preparation tool Demonstrated experience in satellite performance monitoring and reporting aspects including anomaly analysis and solving in liaison with satellite industry, procedure change control and configuration management processes Experience in the operation or development of satellite ground segment facilities, in particular procedure development, monitor and control, mission planning, onboard software management, performance analysis, configuration management and simulator facilities.
