System Spacecraft Operations Engineer

Spacecraft Operations Engineer Key Tasks and Responsibilities As part of the Sentinel3 Spacecraft Operations Team, you will be responsible for Satellite system operations SSOE, covering all satellite and system FOSPDGS components aspects related to operations engineering for the platform, payload and instrument data handling, instrument parameter and OBSW maintenance, as well as FDIR and OPS security aspects for the management of encryption and authentication functions. You will have, among others, the following tasks Support to the routine operations of Sentinel 3A, and preparing for Sentinel3B o Provision of operational expertise to their relevant system ref. to Table 1 in particular, with support to other platform subsystems andor payload instruments andor onboard software management, satellite simulator and ground segment operations interfaces o Maintain the corresponding operations documentation and flight procedures o Perform trending and performance analysis on the corresponding subsystems and instruments o Investigations into satellite anomalies Support to the system and operations preparation of sentinel3 C and D satellites Support to the system and operations preparation of other LEO satellites. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and demonstrated extensive work experience University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline Spacecraft Operations on Low Earth Orbit LEO, 3 axis stabilised spacecraft with responsibility for one or more platform subsystems or instruments during operational validation, commissioning or routine operations phases SCOS2000 mission control system and use of the MOIS operations preparation tool Satellite performance monitoring and reporting, including anomaly analysis and solving, procedure change control and configuration management processes Operation or development of satellite ground segment facilities Fluency in English is mandatory knowledge of another European language is an advantage. LECTURERSENIOR LECTURER IN SPACECRAFT DYNAMICS Department of Electrical Electronic Engineering Guildford Salary 38,896 to 56,482 Full Time Ref 080015R The Surrey Space Centre SSC is seeking to appoint an academic in the field of spacecraft dynamics to contribute to the activities of the centre. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with colleagues supporting existing projects, and developing new ones in the general area of spacecraft dynamics including space mission analysis and design, orbital dynamicsastrodynamics, spacecraft attitude, guidance, navigation and control. Theoretical knowledge of the subject is essential and experience of practical applications and hardware is beneficial. The centre is leading exciting projects in the area of space debris, and therefore some knowledge of this topic would be beneficial. Similarly, knowledge of formation flying or rendezvous and docking would be a valuable asset. A record of high quality publications and success in gaining research funding would be desirable at a lecturer level and essential at a senior lecturer level. The candidate will be expected to teach to undergraduate and postgraduate students in hisher specialist areas, in addition to making a general contribution to appropriate departmental Engineering programmes. Research in the Faculty is organised into interdisciplinary centres, and the successful applicant will be expected to collaborate and report to the Director of SSC. Surrey Space Centre SSC is the worlds leading centre for research into small, low cost space missions. It works closely with its spinout company Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. SSTL which provides a route for commercial exploitation of SSCs research. Currently, SSC houses nine permanent academic staff plus visitors and senior researchers, and around 50 postgraduate research students, making it one of the worlds largest space engineering academic groups. For our activities in ESOC, we are currently looking for a Spacecraft Controller SpaCon on a temporary contract for the duration of 12 months. Tasks and Responsibilities This position may include the following tasks Operate on a 247 shift basis all or part of the mission control system, which may include parts of the ground segment as well as the space segment, as specified for each mission Depending on the mission assignment, during the prelaunch phase assist in configuring and testing the operational system to support the operations. The successful candidate may be required to support development of methods or tools to assist in the execution of the operations Depending on the mission assignment, onconsole involvement in Mission Readiness Tests MRT, System Validation Tests SVT, simulations and Launch and Early Orbits Phase LEOP operations authorised by the Spacecraft Operations Manager, following established rules, procedures and practices, and where applicable in accordance with the ECSS standards In case of ground or space segment anomaly be responsible for first line support to taking corrective action, as necessary, applying the relevant contingencyemergency procedures approved for the mission to ensure safety of the spacecraft and the continuity of service provision Be responsible for informing the Spacecraft Operations Manager andor hisher official deputy when a major or critical anomaly is detected, in accordance with the established procedures Participate to other operationsrelated activities small system development, procedures development or maintenance, etc upon request from the Team Leader Depending on the assignment, perform any of the abovementioned tasks either as a Shift SpaCon or as a Backup SpaCon, i.e. continuously training on more than one mission to be ready to replace any of the other Team Members at short notice, if need be. Additional tasks within the scope of the role, qualifications and experience of the candidate at the discretion of Serco andor the Customer. Requirements Applicants should have a solid technical background and preferably a degree at BSc or MSc level in a related subject such as IT, Telecommunications, Physics or another scientific discipline, etc. The successful candidate will have ideally 4 or more years of experience in an Operations environment preferably with experience working directly with spacecraftsatellites. Experience from working on an Interplanetary Mission would be considered an asset. Experience working with computer systems and PC literacy is required. Knowledge of databases i.e. Oracle, MySQL, Access, MariaDB and Java XML would be considered as advantageous. Candidates should be methodical, disciplined and have a mind for efficiency as the appointed person should feel comfortable in a strictly proceduredriven critical operations environment where procedures must be carried out to the letter. Due to the operational nature of the job, candidates shall be able to work in a calm and correct manner under conditions of stress and in almost full autonomy e.g. during night shifts. As the successful candidate could be part of a small Ops Team working on a 247 shift rotation pattern, team spirit and teamplayer attitude are also essential to be able to adapt to the sometimes unavoidable shortterm changes to the shift plan resulting from sickness or other exceptional circumstance, with the purpose of avoiding any service disruption and ensuring the satellite health and safety above all. Please note that this is a temporary contract for the duration of 12 months.
