Spacecraft Propulsion Engineer Architect

A vacancy for a Spacecraft Propulsion Engineer Architect has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Stevenage. The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Design of chemical propulsion system architecture concepts. Analysis of propulsion system performance at sub system and system level for both commercial telecoms and ESA satellite programmes. You will be required to generate propulsion system specifications and perform propulsion design, performance and analysis for chemical propulsion systems. Preparation of spacecraft system test plans, test requirement preparation, verification analysis including FMECA, design verification matrices and assessing test results. Concurrent engineering with system level interfaces mainly in the structural, thermal control, integration and test, attitude control and mission analysis disciplines. You will be responsible for technical documents and presentations in support of project technical reviews. You will be the author and owner of propulsion system technical specifications Electromechanical components, pressure vessels, Design, Manufacture and Integration therefore responsible for the qualified definition and subsequent changes to it. As such you will be accountable for review and approval of the AsBuilt and its compliance with the AsDesign standard, including review and acceptance of equipmentsubsystem test results, review of end item data packs and final technical acceptance of propulsion subsystem and justification to the end satellite customer. You will be responsible to develop and implement department toolsprocess improvement strategy in conjunction with objectives defined by management. As the Work Area Manager WAM for a given project you will be responsible for Onquality, OnTime and On Cost of the propulsion subsystem. In addition you will be responsible for spacecraft flight operations monitoring. Tasks and Responsibilities This position may include, among others, the following tasks Operate on a 247 shift basis all or part of the mission control system, which may include parts of the ground segment as well as the space segment, as specified for each mission Depending on the mission assignment, during the prelaunch phase assist in configuring and testing the operational system to support the operations. The successful candidate may be required to develop methods or tools to assist in the execution of the operations Depending on the mission assignment, Onconsole involvement in Mission Readiness Tests, System Validation Tests, simulations and Launch and Early Orbits Phase operations authorised by the Spacecraft Operations Manager, following established rules and procedures In case of ground or space segment anomaly take corrective action as necessary, applying the contingencyemergency procedures approved for the mission to ensure spacecraft safety and the continuity of service provision to users Immediately inform the Spacecraft Operations Manager andor hisher official deputy when a major or critical anomaly is detected, in accordance with the established procedures Participate to other operationsrelated activities small system development, procedures development or maintenance etc upon request of the Team Leader Depending on the assignment, perform any of the abovementioned tasks either as a Shift SpaCon or as a Backup SpaCon, i.e. continuously training on more than one mission to be ready to replace any of the other Team Members at short notice, if need be. Requirements Applicants should have a solid technical background and a degree at least at BSc level MSc would be preferred in a related subject such as Aerospace Engineering, Telecommunications, Physics etc. The ideal candidate is a young graduate MSc in one of the above mentioned disciplines with very good academical career and a passion for satellite missions or space activities in general. Experience working with computer systems and PC literacy is required. DB knowledge would be useful. Previous experience with an interplanetary project will be seen as an asset. Candidates should be ordered, disciplined and have an efficient thinking mind as the appointed person should feel comfortable in a strictly proceduredriven working environment. Due to the operational nature of the job, candidates shall be able to work in a calm and correct manner under conditions of stress and in almost full autonomy e.g. during night shifts. As the successful candidate could be part of a small Ops Team working on a 247 shift rotation pattern, team spirit is also essential to adapt to the sometimes unavoidable shortterm changes to the shift plan resulting from sickness or other exceptional circumstance, with the purpose of avoiding any service disruption and ensuring the satellite health. Job description For a customer in the UK, we are seeking experienced Spacecraft Flight Software Developers for the ExoMars Rover Vehicle. The ExoMars Rover is planned to be launched in 2018 and will carry a comprehensive suite of instruments dedicated to exobiology and geological research. The nominal mission duration is 218 Martian sols. To achieve this a sophisticated suite of onboard software has to be developed and undergo a very comprehensive integration, test and verification program. Responsibilities As a part of the flight software development team, you will be located at the customer premises. The primary responsibilities will be the integration and validation of the flight software. This will include producing test specifications, test procedures and the running of those tests. The work will also include the analysis, debugging and correction of any problems identified. Qualifications Competencies Applicants shall have a university degree, in a relevant discipline or other suitable qualification.
