EPSSG Spacecraft Operations Engineer

EPSSG Spacecraft Operations Engineer Key Tasks and Responsibilities As part of the EPSSG Operations Preparations Integrated Team OPIT, you will be responsible for the Operations Preparations for Database and On Board Software OBSW end to end Operations, and have , among others, the following tasks OBSW end to end activity definition of the overall operational concept from the interface with industry up to the uplink of the new software images to the satellites Produce the OBSW Ops Guide and related operation procedures End to end operational concept to manage reference and characterisation Databases being delivered to EUMETSAT including operational interface with the industry Define for each type of Database its life cycle and configuration control for operation usage including the definition of Operations Department OPS documentation, procedures and working practices Development of the Satellite Operational Database based on the Satellite Reference Database and OPIT inputs Manage the Operational Database against changes to successive Satellite Reference Databases deliveries. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline Demonstrated work experience in the field of spacecraft and ground segment operations Satellite operation preparation and routine operations phases OBSW maintenance expertise with good knowledge of Configuration Management CM processes for both ground images and onboard memory management Satellite Databases management in the frame of the operation preparation phase Operation Preparation tools such as procedure editor and databases management tools Definition of operational interfaces and interactions with industry or external partners Fluency in English is mandatory knowledge of another European language is an advantage. The first in the series, Sentinel1, carries an advanced radar instrument to provide an allweather, dayandnight supply of imagery of Earths surface. The first of two spacecraft was launched in 2014. The first satellite is already in orbit, with next 3 in the series at different stages of production. Payload level AIT activities will be performed in close cooperation with the Payload Team, and under supervision of the Sentinel1 Payload Manager. In particular, the tasks include Ensuring a proper definition and implementation of the Assembly, Integration and Test activities at all Spacecraft levels, including definition of test documentation Supporting the coordination of all AIT related matters, including payloads, subsystem and equipment related tasks Supporting the Sentinel1 Team in the definition of the Verification approach, including requirements traceability, allocation of verification methods, definition of verification documentation and final verification closeout Supporting the Sentinel1 Team in the definition of an AIT Programme consistent with the imposed constraints and the required testing to achieve system requirements verification, qualification and acceptance Supporting the definition and development of Ground Support Equipment, including system databases, required to support of the AIT programme Supporting the optimized definition of environmental tests and the selection of adequate test facilities Supporting the monitoring of integration and test activities onlocation and the relevant test reviews at all levels Contributing to the control of integration and test activities at all levels, in particular identifying schedule criticality and supporting problem solving activities Supporting the NCR discussions and the related NRB as appropriate. Responsibilities We are looking for qualified AITAIV Engineers to support the Sentinel1 development programme. This is a full time position, located at ESTEC, Noordwijk in The Netherlands in April 2016. Working time is normal office hours, with occasional oncallstandby support outside normal working hours. Occasional travel within Europe may be required. Qualifications Competencies This position requires a person with University degree or similar in engineering, physics or related subject. Specific requirements for the position Essential requirements The candidate shall have practical experience of working in AIT. Masters degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent. Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team within the boundaries of assigned tasks and a stringent schedule Experience in Assembly, Integration, Test of Flight Hardware Good knowledge of GSE operations and infrastructure. Experience in using DOORS for requirements traceability, allocation of verification methods and requirement verification Experience relevant to verification through simulation models, specifically MatLab based, and basic knowledge of verification of ASIC and FPGA devices suited for on board space applications, will also be considered Proficient in the English language spoken and written. Extensive experience of system level functional and performance testing. Ability to travel to the satellite prime contractors premises frequently and to act as onsite support where appropriate during the satellite test and launch campaigns.
