Spacecraft Controller

For our activities in ESOC, we are currently looking for a Backup Spacecraft Controller SpaCon. Main responsibilities After an initial training and certification period, the successful candidate will become a Backup Spacecraft Controller. This position may include the following tasks, depending on the Operational Teams needs Operate on a 247 shift basis all or part of the mission control system, which may include parts of the ground segment as well as the space segment as specified for each mission, following established rules, procedures and practices. In case of ground or space segment anomaly be responsible for first line support to taking corrective action, as necessary, applying the relevant contingencyemergency procedures approved for the mission to ensure safety of the spacecraft and the continuity of service provision Be responsible for informing the Spacecraft Operations Manager andor hisher official deputy when a major or critical anomaly is detected, in accordance with the established procedures Participate to other operational or operations preparation activities small system development, procedures development or maintenance, Mission Readiness Tests, System Tests, Simulations, etc upon request from the Team Leader Additional tasks within the scope of the role, qualifications and experience of the candidate at the discretion of Serco andor the Customer. The role will start on a nonshift pattern, but the candidate should be prepared to join the shift pattern as and when required by the missions operational requirements. Ideal candidate Applicants should have a solid technical background or a BSc in a related subject such as IT, Telecommunications, Physics, Engineering or another scientific discipline. Some programming experience C, Java or good knowledge of DBMS i.e. Oracle, MySQL, Access, MariaDB would be considered as advantageous. Candidates should be methodical, disciplined and have a mind for efficiency as the appointed person should feel comfortable in a strictly proceduredriven critical operations environment where procedures must be carried out to the letter. Due to the operational nature of the job, candidates shall be able to work in a calm and correct manner under conditions of stress and in almost full autonomy e.g. during night shifts. As official, recorded communications via voiceloop between stationscentres is part of the job, fluent and clearly spoken English is a mandatory requirement. Tasks and Responsibilities Your main tasks will be daily reporting and analysing of routine operations maintenance of Spacecraft Online Database using DABYS creation maintenance of routine monitoring reports using Python in CHART coordinating daily operational activities as the on call duty rota system control procedure creationmaintenance provide Controller training for S3 Spacecraft analysing of spacecraft anomalous behaviour. All tasks may change at the discretion of the team leader. Requirements You should have a sound background in a scientific or technical discipline. You must be familiar with mission control facilities relating to spacecraft operations SCOS2000 is essential. EUMETSAT and or S3 Operations experience is an advantage. Software development expertise Python is an advantage. Good PC skills, with a good knowledge of Word, Excel and Access, are essential.
