DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 200 PM PDT (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Andres was located near latitude 18.3 North, longitude 123.9 West. Andres is moving toward the northwest near 10 mph (17 km/h). A turn toward the north-northwest and a decrease in forward speed is expected on Wednesday followed by a gradual turn toward the northeast and a reduction in forward speed on Thursday morning. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 85 mph (140 km/h) with higher gusts. Continued weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Andres is expected to become a tropical storm later tonight or on Wednesday. Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 125 miles (205 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 980 mb (28.94 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells generated by Andres are affecting portions of the west coast of the Baja California peninsula.
